School has started and things have slowed down at the library. We are still suffering from the terrible heat in our area.

The 5th and 6th of this month I am attending a 2-day BTOP workshop in Norfolk. I am looking forward to all of the new info.

We have lots of VHS tapes for sale. We weeded them from our collection since they were not being checked out anymore. We are selling them for really CHEAP prices. The more you buy the cheaper they are. Of course we also have books for sale too.

We have lots of new books and DVDs ready for checkout, so stop in and see if any are you style.

Busy Summer

Whoa, I just can’t believe the start of the school year is just around the corner. We have been busy this summer with story hour in June and July (which by the way, we had super turn outs)! Ann did a wonder job with story hour this year. She used our new BTOP equipment to show outdoor movies for the kids and had great activities!

We had a combination bake and book sale in June. All of our bake goods were sold and a lot of books were sold too.

We have one more activity this coming week for the kids. It is a sewing class and we will be making a 10 minute table runner. Boys and girls can participate. All you need is a sewing machine and we will furnish the fabric kits for you to purchase. Yes, girls I have several horse kits to choose from and some good ones for the boys too. These classes will be August 7th and 9th at the Com. Building 9am-11am. Cost of the kits is $10.00. Hope to see a lot of sewers.

We have had lots of good reading material for our patrons this summer and the newest DVD’s too. These have all had good use with the hot weather we have been having. Nobody wanted to go out in it.

Enjoy your last days of summer vacation and have a good start of the new school year kids.

Summer is Here!!!

Each month seems to just fly by anymore. Guess we have been busy. Summer story hour started today. It will run the next two Tuesdays of June and July 14, 21, and 28. We hope lots of kids attend.  The alumni came through for us and we were able to purchase a new sign for our building.  Our next project will be paneling the walls in our front room at the library, since our wallpaper is really loosening  up. It seems like it is always something.

We have plenty of new books and DVDs so stop and see if any suit your mood.

March Library News

I can’t believe that March is just about over. Have you enjoyed the 80 degree weather we’ve been having?
The Nebraska Library Commission & the BTOP grant have been generous again. We will be getting a screen for our projector and last week we received an external hard drive to back up the new computers. This is just wonderful for our small library.
Alumni letters have been sent out the past week for an appeal to help fund a new sign for our library. We have already been receiving donations, so it shouldn’t be too long before we can order the sign. Meadow Grove alumni have always been very generous people. Enjoy the rest of the month.

Library’s New Project

Our Open House Event for our new BTOP Computers drew about 25-30 people. For Meadow Grove that is pretty good. They were all very impressed with the new computers.

Last week I got the library’s Statisical Report done.  That is always the first big project of the year that needs to be completed.

The library board has decided that our library needs a new sign for our building. We have contacted Love Signs in Norfolk and they came up with a wonderful design for us. Just something plain and straight forward. The cost is $1100 so we are going to be appealing to our patrons and the alumni to help us out with this project. I know they will come through for us.

Were many of you fortunate to get e-readers for Christmas? The library possibly will be having a workshop to show you how to load books onto them. Would anybody be interested in this? Let me know and I will see what I can arrange.

December News

I cannot believe that Christmas is only three days away. It has been a busy month here at the library. Lots of patrons have been in using the new computers. They especially enjoy using the Webcams. We, the staff, are trying to get familiar with all the new programs on the computers. It is wonderful what the Library Commission and the Gates Foundation have put together for the libraries in Nebraska.
On January 15th, from 2-4 pm the library board and staff will be hosting an Open House for the public to see all of the greaat equipment we now have. I hope many of you will be able to attend this event.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

New BTOP Computers

Yes, our new BTOP computers and equipment have arrived and have been installed.

They are wonderful computers with great software.

Our patrons that have used them already are really impressed with them also.

We all need to thank the Library Commission for applying for this grant. It has been a godsend to many libraries in Nebraska.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and I will be letting you know the date of our open house event for the new computers.

The Computers Are Coming!!!!

Yes, I heard from JoAnn, at the Library Commission today, that our new computers will be coming October 26th. How about that kids? Are you ready for them????

The Booster Club had a wonderful day for their Historical Walk down Main Street of Meadow Grove. The library was open that afternoon so interested people could view the changes to the building after the library took it over. They had a nice group of people participating in the walk.

New DVDs this month are: Soul Surfer, Green Lantern, & Grace Card.

New books by the following authors are: Brown, Grisham, Sanford, Woods, Blackstock and Brunstetter.

Silent Auction

I was the victim of the flu bug last week and was out of the library for four days, but Doris kept things running smooth for the library patrons.

Meadow Grove celebrated it’s Q125 a week ago and the library had a silent auction on Saturday of the celebration. Our patrons came through very well for us and we raised $800!

October 16th has been proclaimed Meadow Grove Day by the village board, since this was the actual date Meadow Grove became a village. The Booster Club will be having a soup dinner that day and then a historical walk will take place at 1:00 pm. All the businesses on Main Street will be open for the walk, including the library, so you will be able to stop at each locaction and learn the histories of these buildings and how they came to be the businesses they now are.

New items this month are the following DVDs: Arthur, Soul Surfer, The Lincoln Lawyer, Barbie and Marley the Puppy years.

Books by the following authors are also new to the library: Macomber, Mallory, Robb, Brown, Morgenstern, and Grisham!

Fall is Coming

The leaves are turning yellow already and the farmers are cutting silage. I think this means fall is coming soon.

We have a new item for you to check out at the Meadow Grove Library. “Flip” cameras are now available for checkout. A deposit is required to check these out. They may be used for school projects, family trips or reunions and etc. We hope they get used alot.

September 24th, during the village’s Q125 celebration, the library will be holding it’s annual Silent Auction. The auction will be held at the library this year from 1-6pm. We hope our patrons come up with some great items to auction off.

Some good books to read this fall are The Lost Wife, The Orchard and The Lincoln Lawyer. Young adults we have several Sarah Dessen books ready for checkout.

Check out our new Facebook page! Emily, one of our interns, helped me set it up.
