{"id":846,"date":"2020-08-27T19:56:42","date_gmt":"2020-08-27T19:56:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/libraries.ne.gov\/ravenna\/?page_id=846"},"modified":"2020-08-28T17:38:37","modified_gmt":"2020-08-28T17:38:37","slug":"makerspace","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/libraries.ne.gov\/ravenna\/makerspace\/","title":{"rendered":"Makerspace"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Makerspace has been made possible by the following generous donors:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Ravenna Area Vision Foundation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Kreutz Bennett Donor-Advised Fund<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Snap &#8211; On Tools<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Friends of the Ravenna Library<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ravenna Chamber of Commerce<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ravenna Economic Development Foundation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>North Central Regional Center for Rural Development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ravenna Public Library Makerspace<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mission Statement: The Makerspace at the Ravenna\nPublic Library is a place for community members to make, learn, explore and\nshare new ideas while using high tech or no tech tools which library patrons my\nnot otherwise have access to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Patron Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Makers must hold a RPL card in good standing. *Maker will now be referred to as \u201cPatron\u201d <\/li><li>Patrons must complete a waiver and any required machine specific training before using or reserving Makerspace equipment.\u00a0 <\/li><li>Patrons age 14-17 may use the Makerspace alone, after having a parent or guardian sign a waiver with them.<\/li><li>Patrons age 8 \u2013 13 may use the Makerspace if supervised by a trained parent or guardian at all times.<\/li><li>Patrons must be at least 8 years old to be in makerspace areas. Exceptions may occur in cases of library staff-led programming specifically developed for younger patrons.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Patron Reservations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Patrons\ncan make reservations in person or over the phone.<\/li><li>Patrons\nare limited to one reservation per device, per day, up to two hours per\nreservation. <\/li><li>Reservations\nare held for 15 minutes.&nbsp; If you fail to\nshow up, a walk-in can claim that reservation time slot.<\/li><li>Walk-ins\nare welcome at a first come, first serve basis.&nbsp;\nAdvance reservations take priority. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Safety<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Every Patron must complete the safety and operational training for each device including CoralDraw design software, in the Makerspace.\u00a0 You must sign up for individual device training.\u00a0 Library staff will guide you through equipment specific, hands-on safety, operational and design software training. Patrons will be required to watch a few training videos and answer questions before being able to use or reserve a device. <\/li><li>You may know how to use a tool and have undergone training in another makerspace, workplace or at home.\u00a0 Training completed elsewhere does not count as training at RPL.<\/li><li>Headphones, ear buds and cell phone use is prohibited while operating machinery.\u00a0 It is not safe to work with dangling cords and without proper hearing ability.\u00a0 <\/li><li>Do not work in an altered state that could affect your safety and others around you.\u00a0 <\/li><li>Familiarize yourself with emergency procedures.\u00a0 Know where all safety exits are.\u00a0 Know where fire extinguishers are kept.<\/li><li>The Library will provide all safety equipment you will need to safely operate each device. <\/li><li>Patrons agree to report any accident or incident that occurs on RPL Makerspace areas to a staff member.\u00a0 Failure to report an accident or incident may lead to loss of Makerspace\/library privileges. <\/li><li>Patrons agree that if any tool or piece of equipment becomes unsafe or in a state of disrepair, he\/she will immediately discontinue use of the tool and notify the RPL staff. <\/li><li>Shut off and unplug items when you are finished using them.\u00a0 Let hot items cool first.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Clean Environment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It\nis everyone\u2019s job to keep the makerspace clean and orderly.&nbsp; Devices should be cleaned, all debris should\nbe removed and disposed of appropriately.<\/li><li>Tools\nand equipment should be put away before leaving the area.<\/li><li>RPL\nis not a storage facility.&nbsp; Please take\nyour projects with you when you are finished with your reserved time.&nbsp; <\/li><li>All\ndevices used in the Makerspace are to be returned in the same condition as they\nwere issued, normal wear and tear excepted.&nbsp;\nPatron agrees to pay for the loss of or damage to any items and further\nagrees to accept the Library Staff\u2019s assessment of fair restitution for damage,\ndirtiness, delinquency and\/or loss of items in part or total.&nbsp; This restitution amount could be equal as\nmuch as replacement cost of the item. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Computer Use Policies<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Patrons\nagree to abide by RPL computer policies while using Makerspace computers. <\/li><li>Be\ncourteous to other library patrons and other Makerspace users.<\/li><li>Accept\nresponsibility for the security of information they give on the web, such as\npersonal information and credit card numbers. <\/li><li>Never\nmodify any hardware or software on the Makerspace computers. <\/li><li>When\ncreating digital content with the library\u2019s equipment, please remember to bring\nyour own storage devices (flash drive), purchase one at the circulation desk,\nor store your work via an online cloud service.&nbsp;\nThe library\u2019s computers do not store individual work or projects.&nbsp; The library is not responsible for lost or\ndeleted information. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Makerspace Legality<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>All\nMakerspace devices shall be used only for lawful purposes.&nbsp; No one will be permitted to use Makerspace\ndevices to create material that is: <strong><\/strong><\/li><li>Prohibited by local, state or federal law.<strong><\/strong><\/li><li>Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or poses an\nimmediate threat to the well-being of others. (Such use may violate the terms\nof use of the manufacturer.) <strong><\/strong><\/li><li>In violation of another\u2019s intellectual\nproperty rights.&nbsp; For example, using\ndevices to replicate someone else\u2019s designs or articles of manufacture may\ninfringe the copyright, patent or trademark protection.<strong><\/strong><\/li><li>Deemed to be offensive or inappropriate in\na public setting, as determined by staff.<\/li><li>RPL is not responsible if a project is\ndestroyed, does not print\/burn\/ cut correctly, or does not work.
