Our library serves as an information center for all individuals in the Sargent Area. We seek to inspire life-long learning, and provide research tools to serve and strengthen our community and ignite imaginations.
I have been sick for the past week, and it feels good to be back at the library today. Thanks to Jess and Joann for taking over for me. They did a good job. I’ve just unpacked 11 new books. It may take a few days to get them processed and on the shelf, but they look like some good ones.

Here’s a famous picture taken by Solomon Butcher of the Sylvester Rawding family. The image is deceiving because it appears that the cow is standing on the roof of the house. Apparently Sylvester Rawding was also a deceiver and an expert at tall tales. Mr. Rawding claimed that a large bump on his head was from a Civil war bullet lodged in his forehead. Do you recognize any of these people from 1965? The library has a number of school yearbooks from the past – ranging from 1915 to the present. Come on in and search through the memories.
It’s fun to read about the pioneers that first settled this land. I find it especially interesting to read about Custer County history. The Sargent library has a number of Nebraska history books. Here are some of the most interesting ones.

One of my least favorite jobs at the library is getting rid of old books. There is limited space, so some of the books that are well worn or never get checked out have to be discarded. These books are available free (donations accepted) for whomever wants them. Come in and look them over. You may find the perfect book for you.
Here’s an interesting website called Phone Spell that will generate words from your phone number. This makes it much easier for people to remember. Wouldn’t it be cool if the library’s number could be 308-527-READ or something similar? Well, alas, we’re not that lucky. The best combination they could come up with is 308-jar-gag1. That’s probably not a great way to remember the library 🙂
