Libraries Continue to Be More than Just Books!

Did you know you can use your library card to borrow a canning kit, monitor your power consumption, play disc golf at the park, and even borrow an umbrella or bicycle chain during your trip to the South Sioux City Public Library?

September is Library Card Sign Up Month, and the South Sioux City Public Library is celebrating by offering brand new library cards and replacement cards for free! “We wanted to do something special this year, so we designed brand new library cards and are offering them as free replacements throughout the month of September,” says Director, Cicely Douglas.  The cards, designed by the library’s own Melody Manners, come in two versions: a bright red simple design, intended for adults; and a fun pop art style, intended for younger patrons. The cards are sturdier and more durable than before. In addition, they come with a second card for your keychain! This is especially helpful because the library will be requiring your library card for all checkouts. “In the interest of patron safety, we will need to see everyone’s cards at checkout,” explains the Director. “It’ll be an adjustment, but it’s essential in order to maintain everyone’s right to privacy.”
