Deka is a young woman about to become an adult and finds her  life crumbling around her. She is not a human girl but something else. Struggling to find herself a new place and may gain the place she’s always looked for, she’s given a choice. Stay and be tortured, or leave and join a special army. 

Rin

Tuck Everlasting, by Natalie Babbitt; this book has it all, immortals, intrigue, mobs, and of course tragedy. I enjoyed this book as a young adult, even though it ended up making me a bit sad.

These movies are adapted from something else! Maybe a book. Maybe a play. Maybe a comic book or manga. 

 

Fantasy is a genre of fiction that shows magic or otherworldly abilities. It’s imaginative and often set in strange and unusual places. Some subsections of fantasy include paranormal books and urban fantasy. There are few limits to what you may find in a fantasy book. 

Romance fiction is smart, fresh, and diverse. Whether you enjoy contemporary dialogue, historical settings, mystery, thrillers or any number of other themes, there’s a romance novel waiting for you! Two basic elements comprise every romance novel: a central love story and an emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending.

This is a genre of fiction whose content is imaginative, but based in science. It relies heavily on scientific facts, theories, and principles as support for its settings, characters, themes, and plotlines; which makes it different from fantasy.

The Alex Awards are given to books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults, ages 12 through 18. You can find all the Alex award winning books from 1998-2022 here!

 

The Coretta Scott King Book Awards are given annually to outstanding African American authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults that demonstrate an appreciation of African American culture and universal human values.

The Michael L Printz Award is an award for a book that exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature.

 

The first and most enduring award for LGBTQIA+ books, which is presented to English language works published the year prior to the announcement date.

YALSA’s Award for Excellence in Nonfiction honors the best nonfiction book published for young adults (ages 12-18) during a Nov. 1 – Oct. 31 publishing year.
