The Spalding Public Library Book Club members will hold their next meeting on Thursday, August 7th, at 5p.m. in the meeting room. They will be discussing the book “In A Sunburned Country”, written by Bill Bryson.
Every time Bill Bryson walks out the door, memorable travel literature threatens to break out. His previous excursion along the Appalachian Trail resulted in the sublime national bestseller “A Walk in the Woods”. “In A Sunburned Country” is his report on what he found in an entirely different place: Australia, the country that doubles as a continent, and a place with the friendliest inhabitants, the hottest, driest weather, and the most peculiar and lethal wildlife to be found on the planet. The result is a deliciously funny, fact-filled, and adventurous performance by a writer who combines humor, wonder, and unflagging curiosity.
Many of Bill Bryson’s books can be borrowed as an ebook/audio book through the library’s website @ http://libraries.ne.gov/spalding. All book club books need to be returned to the library by Thursday, August 7th!! We welcome all to join the library’s book club discussions. Hope to see you there!!!

The Spalding Public Library Book Club will meet on Thursday, July 10th at 5:00pm in the library’s meeting room. The group will be discussing June’s book selection entitled, “Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand” a novel by Helen Simonson. This book was named one of the best books of the year by The Washington Post, O: The Oprah Magazine, The Christian Science Monitor, and by Janet Maslin of The New York Times. Come join us for a lively discussion about this book!!
The library will be closed on Monday, July 14th, but will be open on Tuesday, July 15th.
Spalding Public Library’s “Preschool Story Time” began last Thursday, with nine children in attendance and their parents. The theme was, “Farm Animals” and the group had fun listening to a story about a big red barn and the animals that live on a farm. All enjoyed new songs and finger plays about farm animals. Heidi McManaman has graciously volunteered to help out with the library’s “Preschool Story Time” each Thursday from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. This program is designed for children ages 3-5 with an accompanying adult. But older and younger siblings are welcome to come and enjoy each week’s thirty- minute themed session that may include finger plays, music, and an easy craft. A story will also be read aloud to the group of children. Adults are needed to help their children with these activities and in checking out library books!! If you have any questions, please call or stop by the library. We hope to see you each Thursday!! The theme for this week is FROGS!!
