Alan Badour has recently completed a replica of the historic Union Pacific depot in Valley. The building was a local landmark from 1889 until its demolition in 1980. Residents who remember the building will be impressed with the accuracy of detail in the model.
The display case, made to specification just for the project, was donated by Friends of the Library.
Valley, Nebraska Sesquicentennial: 1864 – 2014 is now available at the library for $24. This book updates the volume that was published in recognition of the city’s centennial. Introductory material summarizes Valley’s long history, with emphasis on events of the last 50 years. A section of the book is devoted to civic and community institutions and facilities, followed by histories of Valley businesses. A collage of vintage ads from the centennial book brings a touch of nostalgia, but the many color photos make it a decidedly contemporary publication. Members of the book committee include Tom Batten, Claire Bushong, Patricia Clausen, Lorrie Denker, Linda George, Pat Kojdecki, Ben Schnatz, and Cj Wilson. The book was published by Arnold Fencl of Publication Printing.
Important note: If you purchased your book before July 9, please stop by the library to pick up an insert to be affixed to the inside cover of the book!
