The 2022 Summer Reading Program “Oceans of Possibilities” at the Ainsworth Public Library
concluded June 30th with the final fun hours. This was also the last day for participants
registered on ReaderZone to log their minutes of reading. This summer there were 43 children
in grades kindergarten through fourth and 23 preschool and toddler age enrolled for a total of
65. Of the 43 school age kids registered, 16 used the ReaderZone app to log their minutes
read. A goal of 500 minutes reading time for the month of June was set for them to try to reach.
Those sixteen readers logged a grand total of 12,149 minutes read! The top readers were Eli
Beel, Kimberlyn Doke, and Ariyah Voss each with over 1,000 minutes logged and Mason
Winters with a whopping 1,500 minutes. The turnout was great for each day of the fun hours
and we hope everyone enjoyed taking part reading and learning together. The librarians are
looking forward to seeing all our readers checking out lots of books until next summer’s program.

The Ainsworth Public Library will be closed on the 4th of July.

The Ainsworth Public Library received a total of $4,196 from the 2022 ARPA Formula Grant.  These funds were to assist in the Covid-19 pandemic and in the recovery from it.  We used some of the funds to address the public health protocols with the addition of a hand sanitizer dispenser station; two foam soap dispensers in the rest rooms; plus a UV Sterilizer for library material coming back into the library and for the computer stations.  We also used some of the funds to address the social/physical distancing measures to optimize outdoor spaces.  A 10’x10’ Pop-up Canopy and folding table was purchased to use for outdoor programs and meetings.  We also used the grant to acquire a tech mobile power tower for indoor/outdoor use with electrical items such as computers, projector, and speaker system.  A projector was purchased for showing computer images, text, or movies outside of the library building.  About half of the grant money was used on collection development with materials for different ages to enjoy.  We purchased 31 board books; 4 Spanish-English bilingual books; 20 books with CD’s for children as well as 3 audio books for the adults; 61 DVD movies/TV Shows; and 7 Book Club Kits with eight titles each for our Book Discussion Group. 

This project is supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Nebraska Library Commission.

The Library will be closed on Monday, June 20th, to honor the Juneteenth holiday.

Kindergarten to Fourth grade students that signed up for our Summer Reading Program will need to keep track of time read from June 1st to June 30th by way of the on-line app called Reader Zone. Just search for “Reader Zone” at your app store. Install the app on your Android, Apple or Amazon device. Make an account and enter our program code. If you need the code, please contact the library. Once this is done, you may begin logging your reading and see your progress in real time.
