The Library Foundation was formed in November of 1985 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Members of the Foundation adopted by-laws in January of 1986. The Foundation has worked to raise funds to support the activities and needs of the Battle Creek Public Library. Donations are tax-deductible. Contact information is listed above.
The Foundation’s major project–remodeling the former United Methodist Church building–was completed. Our largest donations came from Lied Foundation Trust ($100,000) and the estate of Florence Michaelson, former Library Board and Foundation member ($142,740.00). The Foundation paid $48,000 for the church after it closed. A plaque for each of these donors may be found together on a wall titled “Pillars of Support”, along with other major donors. Florence Michaelson’s name and photo are in the Genealogy area and the meeting room. She was a member of the Methodist Church here. The final papers were signed on October 7, 2009, and remodeling began that day. On July 1, 2010, the Lied Battle Creek Public Library opened to the public.
The ongoing activity of the Foundation is selling Rada Products and candy through local vendors at the Library. You may send donations to the above address. The proceeds from these sales provides materials and funding for activities in the Library. If you have questions or suggestions, e-mail us at battlecreeklibrary@gmail.com.
