Our library will be hosting the traveling exhibition HARRY POTTER’S WORLD: RENAISSANCE SCIENCE, MAGIC, AND MEDICINE, June 3-July 13!
The six-panel exhibition, using materials from the National Library of Medicine, explores Harry Potter’s world, its roots in Renaissance science and the ethical questions that affected not only the wizards of Harry Potter, but also the historical thinkers featured in the series. Although a fantasy story, the magic in Harry Potter books is partially based on Renaissance traditions that played an important role in the development of Western science, including alchemy, astrology, and natural philosophy.
This exhibition is currently traveling to locations in the US, UK and Canada. 🙂

The Wright Morris Walking/Driving Tour is one of 80 attractions included in the 2013 Nebraska Passport. Stop by the Central City Public Library or the Merrick County Historical Museum to begin your adventure!
The program, created by the Nebraska Tourism Commission, encourages travelers to explore Nebraska. Participants collect stamps from participating attractions and then redeem them for prizes.
Attractions selected for the 2013 program are organized into 10 special-interest tours: Hit the Hot Spots, Meet the Locals, Picture the Scene, Play Outside, Savor the Flavor, Seeing Is Believing, Sleep Tight, Tap Into It, Turn the Page and Wrangle the West. Wright Morris Walking/Driving Tour is part of Turn the Page.
Travelers have until Sept. 30 to visit attractions and redeem their stamps for prizes. For each completed tour, participants receive a Nebraska Passport T-shirt. In addition, travelers can win 20 $1 Nebraska Lottery Scratch coupons (for 20 stamps) and a digital camera (for 40 stamps).
Participants also have the chance to be entered into a grand-prize drawing (held in October) for an Apple® iPad® mini valued at approximately $600. An additional drawing for 300 $1 Nebraska Lottery Scratch tickets will be held for all participants 19 years of age or older who turn in passports with at least one stamp.
