September is Library Card Sign-Up Month!
Since 1987, September has been observed as Library Card Sign-Up Month, a time when the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide join together to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step towards academic achievement and lifelong learning.
Culbertson’s library issues cards free of charge to residents of Culbertson and surrounding areas in Hitchcock County. If you haven’t signed up for one, come in soon and discover the wealth of information and services available to you!

Lego Club is back!
Mark Tuesday, September 7, on your calendar – Lego Club is back! The Library will be hosting Lego Club for boys and girls in first through sixth grades every Tuesday afternoon from 3:30 – 4:30 beginning September 7. The Library’s Lego collection has been cleaned, sanitized, and sorted. It will be a fun and creative time for boys and girls, no registration necessary!

2021 SUMMER READING CLUB HELD IN JUNE
Summer got off to a great start with Culbertson Library’s Summer Reading Club held during June.
Over the course of the four weeks of Thursday sessions, children ages 7 through 12 participated in an animal-focused program, “Tales and Tails.” Discussions and crafts were led by Kim Cook, 4-H Youth Development Extension Educator for Hitchcock, Dundy, and Hayes Counties, Extension Intern Ellie Jarecke, and Mary Hagan.
A highlight of the program came in Week 3 (“At Your Service”) when Officer
James McCain from the Nebraska State Patrol brought his canine partner, Police Service Dog (PSD) Lee and explained the work they do together.
PSD Lee demonstrated his drug-sniffing and tracking skills, and Officer McCain explained the background and training of dogs that work with the State Patrol.
Officer McCain also conducted a lively discussion with the kids. He explained the law enforcement gear attached to his vest, told stories of some of his and Lee’s exciting searches and arrests, and answered their questions.
