Library Lore

If you read a lot of books you are considered well read. But if you watch a lot of TV, you’re not considered well viewed.

2011 is going to be a great year for the Hooper Public Library!  We have been hard at work making a few, much needed changes around the library and plans are underway to do even more.  Next year will be the 10th anniversary at this location so we will be working on sprucing up the place in anticipation of that!

Recently I received an email from an author whose family immigrated here and were some of Hooper’s first residents.  Duane Victor Keilstrup  wrote The Christian Professor in the Secular University: Singing and Soaring on Paths of Joy and has sent us an autographed copy for our library collection.  He also mentioned he will be coming through Hooper later this year.  It might even be possible to have a meet & greet with him at the Library!  Watch for details on that in the future.

The internet is a wonderful thing as two other people have contacted me via email asking for help with researching their Hooper family heritage.

Another exciting letter came just the other day from a man in Virginia who read the article in The New York Times (he sent a copy from the newspaper) plus sent a very nice letter and small donation to the Library!  If you would like to see these items feel free to stop in!

These are just a few of the new titles we have recently added to our collection:

Early readers will enjoy: Fancy Nancy: The Show Must Go On by Jane O’Connor, Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish and Drip, Drop  and Splish, Splash, both by Sarah Weeks.

We have added Hamster Magic by Lynne Jonell, The Search for WondLa by Tony DiTerlizzi,  and Runaway Twin by Peg Kehret to the Junior Fiction section and in Junior Non-Fiction be sure to read about Abraham Lincoln’s ornery sons and their antics in Mr. Lincoln’s Boys as well as a fun new book titled  Can an Old Dog Really Learn New Tricks?  Which includes all kinds of questions about animals.

We also just received 2 copies of the 2011 Nebraska Travel Guide if you’d like to start planning or dreaming of your next Nebraska vacation.  The Consumer Reports Guide for 2011 and the 2011 Fuel Guide are also available for check out.

We are excited about our new copy machine which we were in desperate need of.  The previous one had been here since 1992 so it was time for an update!  Next time you need copies, please come to see us.  We charge just 10 cents per black & white copy, or 50 cents per color copy.

The Friends of the Hooper Library group is always looking for new members who care about our Library and would like to volunteer and or contribute in some way.  Contact Bev Thomsen 654-2464 if you are interested.

Curl up with a good book on these cold winter nights!

  1. Hi, Cherie,
Thanks so very much for the note about my book contribution. We still hope to get to Hooper as health permits and would love a meet and greet. Perhaps next spring after some surgery. Will keep you posted. Really enjoy reading about goings on at the library and in Hooper.
    God bless!
    Duane
