What’s Happening at HPL

Do you like reading to children?  I am looking for volunteers to read for  Toddler/Preschool story time.  If this is something you might like to do occasionally, please call or come into the library for more information. 402-654-3833.  Dates and times are not set for this yet so I can work with your schedule.

As Director of the library every year I am required to submit a survey of statistics about our library and community. This also helps determine our accreditation every 3 years.  We recently received our accreditation at the SILVER LEVEL. That is an improvement over our last accreditation which was at the bronze level.

Now that the holiday season is over and things have settled back to normal routines please make sure you are encouraging your children and grandchildren to read on a regular basis. And of course set a good example by reading yourself! If you do not have a library card with us please sign up today! It’s no cost to you but there are plenty of benefits.  Along with books we offer public computers, Wi-Fi, magazines, DVD movies for checkout, and Nebraska Overdrive which allows you to borrow audio or e-readers to your device. All of these services are available at no charge. Services like copies, die cut use, inter-library loan are available for a small fee.

We have recently made a couple of changes in our shelving to make finding books at your child’s level a bit easier.  We made a separate section at the beginning of the picture books that are labeled EARLY READER for those young ones starting to be able to read on their own. We also separated TEEN books in our Junior Fiction aisle. These are books that are a higher reading level or the content may be geared more toward teenagers but that does not mean a child has to be a teenager to check these out.

There will be a Valentine’s Day party at Hooper Public Library on Wednesday February 13th at 4:15p.m.  Information will come home from schools and local daycares about this so mark your calendar.  NOTE: the party is NOT on Valentine’s Day, it is on WEDNESDAY the 13th

Also, watch for flyers or check our Facebook page or website for more information on the party and Story Time with Guest Readers – coming soon!
