September 1 – Library Card Sign-Up Month! Stop by the library and get your FREE library card for access to both print and digital book titles. Through Nebraska OverDrive you have FREE access to over 20,106 digital books and 8,607 audio books for both adults and kids!

September 5 – The library will be closed in observance of Labor Day.

September 11- National Grandparent Day. Kids – bring your grandparents to the library. Grandparents – bring your grandkids to the library. Special treats for everyone!

September 12 – The Palmyra Book Club will meet at the library at 2:00 P.M. to discuss the book Goodnight, Nebraska by Tom McNeal.

September 18 – Story time at the library at 4:00 P.M. All cowpokes between the ages of four and eight are invited to attend.

September 19 – “Talk Like a Pirate Day” Aye mateys come in and check out our collection of pirate books or walk the plank!

September 26 – Kids Book Club will meet at the library from 4 – 6:00 P.M. to discuss the book – The Jungle Book and view the movie. The Kids Book Club is open to anyone in fourth grade and above.

September 25 – October 1 – Banned Book Week. Learn more about banned and challenged books at the library or by going to www.ala.org/bbooks/.

August 3 – It’s National Watermelon Day! Stop by the library and enjoy a piece of watermelon.

August 8 – The Palmyra Book Club will meet at 2:00 P.M. at the library. Jen Jackson from Barnes & Noble will be our guest speaker. She will be book talking the latest “reads” for our club members. Anyone is invited to attend.

August 15 – District OR1 begins school year 2016-2017.

August 21 – Children between the ages of four and eight are invited to attend COWBOY/COWGIRL story time at 4:00 P.M. at the library. Wear your hat and boots and come prepared to have a good time!

August 22 – Kid’s Book Club will meet at the library at 4:00 P.M. for their organizational meeting. The Kid’s Book Club is open to anyone in fourth grade and higher.

August 31 – It’s “bring your dog to the library day.”  Stop in and be sure to bring your favorite furry four-legged friend.

LEGO SUNDAYS JULY 10, 17 & 24

Hey Kids – It’s LEGO Sunday, July 10th, 17th and 24th at the library. Bring your LEGO sets or play with our 10,000+ LEGOS. Come whenever you like and stay until we close. I’ll bring some treats if you need nourishment. Hope to see some of you on Sunday. The library opens at 12:30 and closes at 5:30 P.M.

On Your Mark, Get Set…READ!

The Palmyra Memorial Library summer reading program begins on July 5th at Taggert Park.  Children will have an opportunity to meet race car drivers and learn about their cars.  They will also be participating in Palmyra’s first ever Color Fun Run!  Stop by and take part in the fun!!!

July 4 – The library will be closed to celebrate Independence Day!

July 5 – Summer Reading program begins! Join us for an evening of fun from 6:30 – 8:00 P.M. at the park with racecar drivers and a Color Fun Run. ON YOUR MARK, GET SET, READ!

July 9 & 10 – Germanfest Celebration at Syracuse.

July 10 – LEGO Sunday (Bring your own LEGOs or use the library’s 10,000 plus LEGOs.)

July 11 – Palmyra Book Club meets at 2:00 to discuss the book – Loving Frank.

July 12 – Summer Reading program continues at Palmyra Activities Center. Otoe County Agent, Sarah Purcell will be showing kids how to make healthy choices when eating and exercising.

July 14 – National Hot Dog Day!

July 164-H Pool Party at Syracuse Pool.

July 17 – LEGO Sunday (Bring your own LEGOs or use the library’s 10,000 plus LEGOs.)

July 19 – Summer Reading Program – Movie Night at Palmyra Activities Center.

July 24 – LEGO Sunday (Bring your own LEGOs or use the library’s 10,000 plus LEGOs.)

July 26 – Final Summer Reading Program at Palmyra Activities Center. Join us for a fun evening of library geocaching with lots of prizes.

July 28, 29, 30 & 31st Otoe County Fair *The library has fair books and entry tags.

June 11Used book sale at the library from 9:00 – 3:00 P.M.

June 14Palmyra Book Club will meet at 11:30 A.M. at the Palmyra Pub to discuss the book Copper Sun.

June 20 – Youth Advisory Meeting at 6:00 P.M. at the library.

Palmyra Memorial Library Hosts Art Show

The Palmyra Memorial Library will be hosting an art show featuring artwork by Lincoln artist Julie Childers on Sunday, June 5th from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the library.  Refreshments will be served.

May 2Library Board Meeting at 6:00 P.M. at the library.  Scott Childers, Southeast Library Systems Administrator will be attending the meeting.

May 6 – Southeast Library Systems Board Meeting in Lincoln.

May 8Mother’s Day.  Kids be sure and bring your mom to the library to receive a free treat.

May 9The Palmyra Book Club will meet at 2:00 P.M. to discuss the One Book One Nebraska Book – The Meaning of Names.

May 9 – Registration begins for the Summer Reading Program – “ON YOUR MARK, GET SET – READ!!

May 13Teen Double Feature Movie Night @ the Palmyra Activities Center.  This event is sponsored by the Palmyra Library Youth Advisory Board and will begin at 7:00 P.M.  Doors will open at 6:30 P.M.  This event is for youth between the ages of 12 – 18.   Snacks will be provided.

May 13 – Spring Extravaganza Library Workshop at Seward Memorial Library.

May 15 – Head to the Jungle story time at the library at 4:00 P.M.

May 27 – Golden Sower Reading Day at Seward Memorial Library.

Palmyra Memorial Library Representatives Attend Tour of the UNL Makerspace at Nebraska Innovation Studio

Lucinda Faunce, President of the Palmyra Memorial Library Board and I attended a tour of the Nebraska Innovation Studio on the campus of UNL to learn more about the UNL MakerSpaces project. The device we are standing by is the tool that was created to cut the ribbon for this area. We learned it is important to offer an area in our library for children to have the opportunity to “create”!Innovation
