The Palmyra Memorial Library Summer Reading Program really put a “Fizz” in things when approximately 40 area youth participated in a month long science program led by Mrs. Science AKA Lucinda Faunce.  Ice, fire, water, electricity, energy and chemistry were all incorporated into a fun learning experience for the children.  July 29th will be “Movie Night” – so pack your blanket and pillow and come enjoy an evening of fun and snacks.

 NEST the Nebraska College Savings Plan will deposit $529.00 into a NEST plan for 15 lucky summer readers, five in each congressional district and each library will win $250.00. Children in the Palmyra Memorial Library are eligible to enter the drawing, if they meet their personal reading goal and attend three of the five summer reading sessions. If you have questions, just give the library a call at 402-780-5344. It’s never to early to start saving for your child’s college education.

Summer Reading Registration Ends June 25th

Please be sure and register for the Palmyra Memorial Library Summer Reading Program which will be July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29th at the Palmyra Senior Center from 6:30 -8:00 P.M.  The theme for this year’s program is FIZZ BOOM READ!!  All children between the ages of four and twelve are welcome to attend.  To register phone 402-780-5534 or e-mail palmyramemoriallibrary@gmail.com.

Take the Nebraska OverDrive Challenge

Nebraska OverDrive is challenging all libraries that subscribe to OverDrive to increase circulation by 25% during the month of June and Nebraska OverDrive Consortium will receive $1,500 of content credit  This will give the consortium the opportunity to purchase more titles,  So if you have an e-reader device or Smartphone, be sure and download a title this month and read or listen to a book!

If your answer is yes, then you will want to attend the training at the Palmyra Memorial Library on Sunday, May 18th from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. Scott Childers, Southeast Library Systems Administrator, will provide individual training and show you how you can access over 6,000 titles from your device. Please be sure you know the password for logging in to your e-reader!

May – 1 Registration begins for the Summer Reading Program – FIZZ, BOOM, READ! Save the following dates in July 1 – 8 – 15 – 22 – 29.

May 1 – May Day – Celebrate by delivering a May basket to a shut-in.

May 2 – Family Game Night from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. at the Senior Center. Fun, food and prizes!!

May 7 – Free Blood Pressure Check at the library from 5:30 – 6:30 P.M.

May 11 – Mother’s Day –Bring your mother to the library for a special treat!

May 12 – Palmyra Book Club meets at the library at 2:00 P.M. to discuss the book Lake Wobegon Days by Garrison Keiller. Anyone is invited to participate.

May 12 – Strategic Planning Committee Meeting at the library from 5:30 – 6:30 P.M.

May 18 – Learn how to use Nebraska Overdrive. Bring your Kindles, Nooks, and Smartphones to the library and learn how to download and use the app to access over 6,000 books online. Scott Childers, SELS Administrator, will be on hand to provide individual help from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. on that day.

May 18 – Story Time 4:00 – 5:00 P.M. Come “flutter” around and learn about butterflies!!

May 26 – The library will be closed in observance of Memorial Day.

Palmyra Memorial Library Hosts Family Game Night

The Palmyra Memorial Library is hosting FAMILY GAME NIGHT Friday, May 2 from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. at the Palmyra Senior Center.  All children, youth and their families are welcome to come and play traditional board games and learn new games. Games will be provided by our game host Cameron Iwan and family. Fun, Snacks and Prizes!!  Sponsored by the Great Plains Gaming Project
