September 25th – October 2nd we celebrate Banned Book Week. This is an annual event to celebrate our freedom to read what we wish and to remind us the importance of the First Amendment. Many people try to restrict what you read or hear because of their beliefs. Intellectual freedom is the right to access information and to express ideas, even if they are unpopluar. This is the basis for Banned Book Week.
Celebrate Banned Book Week by picking up a book that has been challenged or banned across the country or around the world. Check out the library for a list of some of the books that have made it to the Banned Book list and express your intellectual freedom by reading one today.
