July Library Board Meeting

The Library Board had alot to discuss today.  We did not have a June meeting due to illness, so no old business was reviewed.  The new mission statement was approved and is as follows:  “The mission of the Fairfield Public Library is to become a center of resources to nurture imagination, inspire learning, empower individuals, and enrich the community.”  Three additional policies were approved, Advocacy, Confidentiality of patron records, and Emergency & safety.  Triple F Days is August 16th so the annual pancake feed for the library was planned out.  Pancakes, country ham, eggs, coffee, or tang will be served 8am-10am at the city auditorium.  There will be a drawing for kids, teens, and adults to sign up for for a $25 gift certificate to the Prairie Books & gifts store towards a book of their choice.  The Library is 100 years old this year and we will have movies at the library 1pm-5pm in celebration.  Snacks and drinks will be provided.  There will be cupcakes and sidewalk chalk for the kids to draw on the walks to help celebrate.  Glow in the dark bracelets will be given out to all the kids.  The front entry way is need of repairs, the library received 1 bid for the project and will be asking the city if they wish to have more bids.  The library plaque to honor the librarians of Fairfield has been tabled for the next meeting.  We are having a hard time finding anyone locally to do the plaque.  Our new bookdrop is up and will be receiving a new faceplate soon.  We have a wonderful volunteer who wants to help the library by cleaning it once a week, we are very grateful for her service to the library!  The library will be offering laminating services for 81/2 x 11 sheets for $1.50 and business size cards for $.75 per sheet.  The library will be purchasing a new emergency kit this month.  The library voted to join the local community club to show its support of their activities in our community.  Budget time is here so we will be planning the next year’s budget during July.  The kid and teen sections of the library has been painted and now on to the adult side….blue is the popular choice!  The library is working on a brochure that will detail its services.  The next meeting will be August 8th.
