Who Can Use It?
The Makerspace is available for use by the general public. There are certain items and activities that are available for any age. Some items require certification and have age restrictions. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult unless participating in a library sponsored event. Being a library cardholder is encouraged, but not required.
What Are the Requirements for Using the Makerspace Studio?
All users are required to attend Makerspace 101 before using the Makerspace. This is a 1-hour introduction to the Makerspace that includes basic usage guidelines, safety, and etiquette. Equipment with “Training Required” labels require users to get one-on-one training before using these items independently.
Users aged 19+ are welcome to use the Makerspace independently after attending a Makerspace 101 training and/or machine specific training, and reading and signing the Makerspace Use and Release Agreement.
Users 12-18 must attend the above trainings and have an adult guardian sign the Makerspace Use and Release Agreement. Some equipment is not available for unsupervised use with this age group.
Users 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times unless attending library sponsored programming.
Makerspace 101 classes with be offered periodically for groups. Makers may schedule individual 101 trainings as well as machine-specific trainings. Once training is completed, makers may use the machines independently (depending on age), but an appointment is necessary to reserve the machine.
