1000 Books Before Kindergarten

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Read 1,000 books?

We know. 1,000 books sounds like a lot, but it’s easier than it sounds. We did the math!

If you read:

  • 1 bedtime story every night for 3 years, you will have read 1,095 books.
  • 3 books every day, you will have the same 1,095 books under your belt in just one year!
  • 10 books a week for 2 years, you will have read 1,040 books.
  • Double that rate and you will have read 1,040 books in just one year.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a self-paced program that has no end date except for your child starting school.  You decide how often and how long you read.

How do you sign up?  You now have two options. Stop by Hastings Memorial Library, fill out a simple registration form, and pick up your log book! Or, use the free Reader Zone App (program code fa693) on your smartphone.

You can log any book read to your child.  This includes books read by siblings, teachers, librarians, and daycare providers.  Did you read that Pete the Cat book 5 times?  You can count each time.

At every 100 book milestone, bring your log into the library.  We will celebrate your child’s success, and they will receive a prize and the log sheet for their next 100 books.  We will also take their picture for our social media pages (optional and with your permission).  When your child reaches 1,000 books, they will receive a certificate of achievement and a final prize!
