FIRST PLACE WINNERS OF SUMMER READING CONTEST

We had fun at the Summer Reading Party.  All kinds of water games were played.  Reading prizes where given out to the children.  First place prize in the Pre-school thru Kindergarten was Amanda Glatter.  First place in the 1st Grade to 3rd Grade was Isabelle Arguello. In the 4th Grade-12th Grade was Haley Hanak. Congratulations!  The party ended with a watermelon feed.

The library and children really appreciates the following businesses that have generously donated prizes, certificates and money to buy prizes for our summer reading program, Creston Fertilizer Shelby Branch, Bryan Dickey DDSPC, Double Dutch Dairy, Dubas Funeral Home, L & A Order Buyers, Pinnacle Bank, Roxy Rasmussen, Shelby Chamber of Commerce, Shelby  Food Mart, Shelby Hotel, Shelby Lumber, United Farmers Cooperative and the Village of Shelby.

ANNUAL USED BOOK SALE

Come in early to get the best selection at very cheap prices.  Paperback books .25 cents, hardback books .25 cents & encyclopedias $2.50 per set.  We have cookbooks, adult & children’s fiction, non-fiction, biographies, & western books.  Proceeds will benefit your library.

MOVIE MATINEE

A movie will be shown on the following dates: Tuesday’s, July 1st, 8th at 10 a.m. Please call the library at 402-527-5181 or stop by the library to see what is playing.   Free popcorn will be provided during the movie.

STORY HOURS

Thursdays on the following dates:  June 26th and July 3rd, 10th the Shelby Community Library is having Story Hours at 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.  This year’s theme is Fizz, Boom, Read.  Activities may include some practical science skills, such as observing, comparing, exploring and predicting while having fun.

CHILDREN, DO YOU WANT TO WIN A BIKE?

Each day that you come to the library and check out a book, you can enter your name for a chance to win a new bike!  The drawing will be held on the first day of school, August 14, 2014.

CHILDREN’S SUMMER READING CONTEST

1st place in all three age categories will win a $100 Shopping Spree at Walmart.  All reading contest sheets are due into the library by 12 Noon, Monday, July 7, 2014.  Everyone will receive their prize at the Fizz Boom Read party on Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Shelby Park under the large shelter.  Prizes will be awarded to everyone entering the contest.
