SUMMER EVENTS

ANNUAL USED BOOK SALE

Come in early to get the best selection at very cheap prices.  Paperback books .25 cents, hardback books .25 cents & encyclopedias $2.50 per set.  We have cookbooks, adult & children’s fiction, non-fiction, biographies, & western books.  Proceeds will benefit your library.

MOVIE MATINEE

A movie will be shown on the following dates: Tuesday’s, July 1st, 8th at 10 a.m. Please call the library at 402-527-5181 or stop by the library to see what is playing.   Free popcorn will be provided during the movie.

STORY HOURS

Thursdays on the following dates:  June 26th and July 3rd, 10th the Shelby Community Library is having Story Hours at 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.  This year’s theme is Fizz, Boom, Read.  Activities may include some practical science skills, such as observing, comparing, exploring and predicting while having fun.

CHILDREN, DO YOU WANT TO WIN A BIKE?

Each day that you come to the library and check out a book, you can enter your name for a chance to win a new bike!  The drawing will be held on the first day of school, August 14, 2014.

CHILDREN’S SUMMER READING CONTEST

1st place in all three age categories will win a $100 Shopping Spree at Walmart.  All reading contest sheets are due into the library by 12 Noon, Monday, July 7, 2014.  Everyone will receive their prize at the Fizz Boom Read party on Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Shelby Park under the large shelter.  Prizes will be awarded to everyone entering the contest.

STUDENT INTERNSHIP AT THE LIBRARY

Applicant must be a High School student in 11th or 12th grade or a college student thinking about becoming a Librarian or Media Specialist as a job career.  All applications will be considered but preference will be given to those with an interest in becoming a Librarian or Media Specialist.  The Student Internship will work thirteen hours a week for 10 weeks.  Starting May 27, 2014 through July 31, 2014.  Preferably Student will work Tuesdays and Thursdays every week from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon. The intern will have a 30 minute lunch and return to work from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The Student will be required to work one Saturday, July 26, 2014 for the summer reading party in the Shelby Park from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Stop by the Shelby Community Library for an application.   This Internship pays a stipend of $1,000 total.  Applications due by May 5, 2014.

NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK

     April 13-19 is National Library Week.  Stop by the Shelby Community Library and win a prize by correctly answering the library trivia question of the day. You can also sign up to win door prizes.  FREE REFRESHMENTS & COOKIES will be available Wednesday, April 16th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  The drawing for door prizes will be held Saturday, April 19 at noon.

Any new adult patron who stops by the library and does not already have a library account will get a free gift for filling out a library account application.  If a current adult library patron brings in an adult that is not already a Shelby library patron and that person signs up for an account both will get a free gift.
