Learn how to use Pinterest.  The Shelby Community Library offers a FREE Pinterest Class Saturday, May 18, 2013 10 a.m. to 12 noon.  Learn online how to do it yourself crafts and projects.  Space is limited, so reserve your spot today.  Call the library at 402-527-5181 or stop by the library to register.

LIBRARY SERVICES OFFERED AT LIBRARY

A common myth is that libraries are only utilized by avid readers.  This is no longer the case as libraries offer many non-traditional services.  New at the library is a Cricut Expression machine for crafters, card makers, scrap booker, quilter, hobbyist or an enthusiastic grandparent wanting new ways to entertain. Several patrons take advantage of free fax services.  Copies and laminating services are available for a minimal charge.  There is a large selection of movies that can be checked out for 3 days at no charge.  Patrons also have access to electronic books for their e-readers via Nebraska Overdrive.  Patrons can access this service for the library website: http://libraries.ne.gov/shelby  A free Nebraska Overdrive e-reader class will be held May 22, 2013 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. by Sarah Warneke the Northeast Library System Director.  Space is limited, so reserve your spot today.   New books and movies are purchased each month, including many in large print addition.  These include popular authors, bestsellers, local interest, reference, etc.

The Shelby Community Library has eighteen desktop and laptop computers that are utilized on a daily basis by adults and students.  Internet access had become essential to daily life but not all households have internet access, which can be accessed for free at the library.  Support is also available for patrons wanting computer and/or e-reader assistance.  The library is open six days a week, including Wednesday evenings, and is closed on Sundays.  Please see the library website for daily hours.  Questions regarding the library can be directed to the library staff or the library board members.

 

EASTER STORY HOUR

The Shelby Community Library Easter Story Hour will be held Thursday, March 28th. 1:40 p.m. to 2:40 p.m.  All Children ages preschool through 2nd grade are invited to attend. Plan to have lots of fun!

FREE FACEBOOK COMPUTER CLASSES

FREE FACEBOOK computer classes held at the Shelby Community Library coordinated by Central Community College-Columbus. Monday, March 18 & 25, 6-8 p.m., PREREQUISITES: MUST ALREADY HAVE AN ESTABLISHED FACEBOOK ACCOUNT.  So you have a Facebook account, now how do you use it? What is a “wall” and how do you used? What is the news feed? Learn how to use functions (messages, chats, adding friends, etc) within your account to build your social network. Focus will be placed on your profile/timeline and setting securities as well. NOTE: This class does not address groups or pages within Facebook. Book Fair Coming Soon

The school will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair from February 25 through March 1, 2013.   We are excited for the new books available to students and the school.  The fair will be held at the Shelby Community Library during normal school hours.  All proceeds from the book fair are used for purchasing new books.  There are opportunities for donating books to students’classroom libraries, and also to the library.  Student, teachers, and librarians appreciate the generosity of our patrons during the book fair week.
