July is going to be busy at the library! Summer reading begins July 11 with a ukulele demonstration by David Haggedone for both sessions. Then on July 12th Nebraska Game and Parks will be here with their live demonstration of reptiles and amphibians.
Throughout July we will be celebrating our theme of “Libraries Rock!” by presenting movies that involve music and songs for the adults.

Assistant Librarian Needed
The Stromsburg Public Library is hiring for the Assistant Librarian Position. Duties will begin August 1, 2018. Responsibilities will include greeting patrons, checking in and checking out of materials using the library computer system, looking up materials for patrons, processing new materials, working with the director and summer reading coordinator on library programming, preparing library displays, posting to social media and creating library flyers. To be eligible for state funding and related grants, the Stromsburg Public Library must be an accreditated library through the Nebraska Library Commission. This accreditation is renewed every three years through a detailed application process.
Part of that application process is to conduct a community survey to assess needs and see if the library can provide assistance in any way.

The library would like to thank the Stromsburg Public Library Foundation for the gift of four new conference tables for the meeting room. These lightweight tables move on rollers and can easily be folded up when not in use. We change out the meeting room many times a week and these tables will make that job much easier. Thank you for supporting the library and the community with this gift!
Due to this purchase and other future and past purchases the library will be selling surplus equipment March 26 – April 6 on a silent auction. Items can be viewed at the City office or at the library during hours. Bidding will take place at the library during open hours. Winners of items will be notified on Monday, April 9 and all items must be paid for and picked up from the library by closing on Friday, April 13.
Items for sale include a trapezoid computer table, four 72” x 30” conference tables, 10’ x 4’ reference table with chairs, a 3 shelf book case, circular stand, and 19 plastic molded chairs with metal legs.

Summer reading at the Stromsburg library began last week and we look forward to a great month! Using the theme, “Build a Better World,” this week we will be “Building a Better Citizen” and going to the Midwest Covenant Home to visit the residents there. The students will read books with the residents, play games and have a snack. The older students will be asking the residents some questions about their life to be used in a later project during “Build a Better Story” week. All students will meet at the Midwest Covenant Home at 10 am on July 12, there will only be one section that day instead of two. Please encourage your child to attend this wonderful opportunity.

The Stromsburg Public Library is hiring a library intern. Must be able to start immediately. This is a temporary position for approximately 100 hours and will be a paid position at $9.00/hr. Duties may include working with the summer reading program, working the front desk, assisting staff with social media and attending library meetings with the director. Apply at the library.
