Many Library Improvements Are Being Completed

The Ainsworth Library Foundation Board held its quarterly meeting on November 10, 2016 at the Ainsworth Public Library.  President Marsha Fuchs called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.  Roll call showed all members present (Traci Alberts, Wendy Allen, Marsha Fuchs, Gary Kinzie, Mark Kovar, Deanna Taylor, and Bev Whitney).  Library Director, Gail Irwin, was also present for the meeting.

Wendy A. made the motion to approve the minutes as read which Gary K. seconded.  All members voted in favor of.  The Treasurer’s report was submitted by Wendy Allen.  There were no bills at this time. 

The Gift Transaction List from August to November 2016 was presented.  The following memorials were received in memory of:

Other gifts included funds to purchase books by Mrs. Gail Sears, $322 from the Haunted House that Mr. and Mrs. Don Schuyler held, funds from the Coffee Station and Donation Jar.  All gifts and support of the library were greatly appreciated. 

An update was presented on library improvement projects.  It was noted that the ADA Check-Out Desk and the ADA Automatic Door Opener have been installed.  The work island top has been ordered to match the top of the check-out desk.  Material for reupholstering the four chairs has been ordered and will be done this fall.  Two coats of paint have been applied to the walls in the new local history room (the old storage room).  Shelving for the bound edition of the Ainsworth Star Journal continuing to be worked on and should be installed the first part of December.  

It was noted that our library received a three star rating in the Library Journal’s America’s Star Libraries.  The five measures for this rating include circulation, library visits, program attendance, public internet computer use, and circulation of electronic materials.  This is the first time our library has been awarded as a star library.

It was noted that a Yard Work Night was held on October 10th with members from the Library Board and Library Foundation Board removing trees, bushes, and leaves.

The National Archives has awarded our library the Bill of Rights exhibit.  We will also be receiving digital materials with the exhibit.  Delivery will be early December.  We are asked to display it from December 15, 2016 to February 28, 2017.  December 2016 marks the 225th anniversary of the Bill of Rights.

Discussion was held on fundraising.  It was noted that the funds from the Haunted House will be used for the children’s department in the area of audiobooks and DVD’s.  Plans were finalized for the Book Basket Auction on Nov. 18th from 6-8 p.m. at the Elk’s building.  Gail will have the plates, cups, napkins, silverware, table cloths and some decorations.  Wendy will be contacting the staff at school to help with the food.  We will start to set up at 2 p.m.  A drawing will be held for all the volunteers.  GJW Inc. will donate pork sausage for this.  Volunteers must be present to win. 

Discussion was held on doing a Google community calendar with other groups in the community.

The next meeting date/time was set for Feb. 16, 2017 at 7 p.m.

Since there was no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
