Stephanie Leonard (a trained Gallery Guide with Gallery On The Go), brought out the inner Picasso in those who attended the painting party at the library Saturday (3/29).  Participants followed Stephanie’s step-by-step instructions, to create their own unique versions of a “Whimsy Tree”.  The paintings were created with acrylic paint and painted on canvas.  It was fun to see the paintings progress and to see how different each one was when they were finished!

Crane Trust Nature & Visitor Center Tour

Photos From Crane Trust Nature & Visitor Center Tour

Did you know that during the fall, sandhill cranes are hunted in all states and provinces along their migration route except Nebraska?  Or that fossil beds in several parts of Nebraska contain the remains of prehistoric cranes from 10 million years ago?  The library organized a group to visit the Crane Trust Nature & Visitor Center (near Alda) on Sunday (3/24).  We listened to a presentation and participated in the Footbridge Evening Tour.  We definitely learned some things that we didn’t already know about sandhill cranes.  In spite of the chilly weather, we had a very enjoyable and educational experience!
Thank-you so much to everyone that participated in the trip with us! Thank-you to Crane Trust Nature & Visitor Center for giving us the tour!  Also, a special thank-you to Chuck Griffith (from the Merrick Foundation) for driving us in the mini-bus! 🙂

Crane Trust Nature Center Footbridge Tour

Would you like to experience the wonder of Nebraska’s Great Sandhill Crane Migration firsthand?  The library is inviting you to go with us on a road trip to the Crane Trust Nature & Visitor Center (near Alda) for a Footbridge Evening Tour on Sunday, March 23.  The $20 per person cost includes the tour and travel costs.  We would depart CC in a minibus at 4:30 p.m, returning to CC around 9:00 p.m.  Description of the Footbridge Tour:  After a presentation on the Great Sandhill Crane Migration, you’ll accompany your guide to the private bridge over the Platte River where you’ll experience a 360-degree view of many large crane flocks crossing the sky above as they travel to roost for the night. Please contact the library to register (946-2512) or with any questions.

International Fun and Flair @ the Library Feb. 24!

The library is hosting an after-school session on February 24 for 20 girls from grades K-6 who would like to learn more about another country.  Barb Hoff, co-ordinator for International Students at Nebraska Christian High School, along with her Asian students, will provide a one-on-one experience for the first 20 girls who register for the program.  The  girls will  choose a new Thai, Chinese, Korean, or Vietnamese name, learn how to say simple phrases and sing a familiar song in that language, and count.  There will be foods and other treats, and flash cards with phonetic pronunciations will be prepared along with other things for children to take home.  The session will run from 3:30 to approximately 5 PM.  If this session is successful, another session for boys will be scheduled later.

Registration can be done by either calling  the library at 946-2512, or emailing the library at cc.library.ne@gmail.com. Registration will be closed after 20 have signed up, but we will keep a reserve list in case someone cannot make it.  Please let the library know if, for some reason, you are one of the 20 and find you cannot attend so we can notify the next one one the list.
