Back by Popular Demand, Tricia Currans-Sheehan and Jeanne Emmons will return for a presentation at the Ponca Carnegie Library on Thursday, September 14, at 7:00 pm. The two authors will discuss their writing collaboration on a young adult trilogy, Skin Deep, for which they are seeking publication. Four years ago, they conceived the idea of the trilogy, and they have now completed all three books. They will share their writing process and the struggles and challenges of writing and publication. They will also read excerpts from the first book of the trilogy, The Rash.
Many will remember when Tricia Currans-Sheehan read from The Egg Lady and Other Neighbors the last time she presented in Ponca. That book was the winner of the Headwaters Literary Competition (New Rivers Press). She has published stories in 60 literary magazines and her novel, The Secret of Sister Jerome, was a finalist for the Marguerite De Angeli prize. She is editor of The Briar Cliff Review and teaches courses in adolescent literature, 20th century literature and composition at Briar Cliff University. The Ponca Carnegie library’s copy of Currans-Sheehan’s The River Road: A Novel in Linked Stories is a popular addition to the collection.
Jeanne Emmons has published three collections of poetry, and her fourth, The Red Canoe, is forthcoming. Her work has won the Minnesota Voices, Backwaters Press Reader’s Choice, Comstock, James Hearst, and Sow’s Ear poetry awards. Her fiction and poetry have appeared in numerous literary journals, including Alaska Quarterly, The American Scholar, Prairie Schooner, and River Styx. She is poetry editor of The Briar Cliff Review. Many will remember Emmons’ reading from her collection of poetry in The Glove of the World.
