“Twelve Days of Christmas” Story Walk

The “Twelve Days of Christmas” Story Walk will begin December 1 through December 12th. Flyers with details of the story walk will be sent home with students.  The pages of the book will be displayed in stores around town and families are encouraged to walk and read together.  Each student may answer the questions on the back of the flyer and receive a free book at the Rock County Public Library. This event is sponsored by the Bassett/Rock County Chamber, Rock County Education Association and  the Rock County Public Library.

PAJAMA STORY HOUR POSTPONED

The “Gobble Up a Good Book” pajama story hour has been postponed to Wednesday, November 13 from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the Rock County Public Library.  All students ages 3 (by September 1) through 2nd grade are invited to come in pajamas.  Best loved blankets, stuffed animals or dolls understood.  No pre-registration required.

FREE MS WORD CLASS

KALKOWSKI LEADS BOOK TALK

Kay Lynn Kalkowski will be presenting  the 2013 One Book One Nebraska book discussion, O Pioneers!, by Willa Cather at 7:00 p.m. on March 19 at the Rock County Public Library. Kay Lynn is a lifelong teacher of American literature.  She has a doctorate in Leadership Studies from the University of Nebraska Lincoln through the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.  Nebraska marks its ninth year of One Book One Nebraska, selecting and promoting a title for Nebraska citizens to read to celebrate the literary richness of our state. Nebraska libraries and other literary and cultural organizations statewide plan activities and events to encourage all Nebraskans to read and discuss the same book. Residents are encouraged to stop by the library to pick up a copy of O Pioneers! to read and join us for this event. Refreshments will be served.

Black History Month

February is Black History Month. You can join the adult book discussion group in reading the book, “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.” by Rebecca Skloot for their regular meeting on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 4:30 p.m. This tale is true and explores the racism, greed, the idealism and faith in science that helped to save thousands of lives but nearly destroyed a family. Copies of the title are available at the Library and members usually read the selected book before meeting for discussion. Anyone may join this discussion by simply stopping by the Library to pick up a copy of the book.

One Book One Nebraska

O Pioneers! by Nebraska author, Willa Cather, has been selected for the 2013 One Book One Nebraska title. Nebraska marks its ninth year of One Book One Nebraska, selecting and promoting a title for Nebraska citizens to read to celebrate the literary richness of our state.  Nebraska libraries and other literary and cultural organizations statewide plan activities and events to encourage all Nebraskans to read and discuss the same book.  The adult book discussion has selected the title for their March discussion with hopes of securing a special speaker sometime this spring for discussion of the book. Residents are encouraged to read this title and join us for this event.

Computer-Related Classes Offered

Used Book, Movie Sale & Silent Auction

The Rock County Public Library is hosting a used book and movie sale including grab bags of paperbacks with lots of children’s books available.   A silent auction of two used computers/monitors, a Canon digital camera, and a child sized wood table is being held in conjunction with the sale.  The auction and book sale ends on December 20, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.  Come on in and check it out!
