There were 260 patrons that registered for prizes all through Friends of the Library week, and then drawings were held. Winners were: Preschool – Jerzie Kaup; Kindergarten – Bryson Thomassen; 1st – Felipe Suarez; 2nd – Matthew Ogden; 3rd – Flora Morey; 4th – Jacoby Slaymaker; 5th – Gage Mitchell; 6th – Ryan Havranek; 7th – Ashley Schaaf; 8th – Sadie Keogh; and Adult – Betty Ziska.
With 112 crafters in all, there were a variety of fall and Halloween crafts made at the library – scarecrows, B-O-O hangings, woven pumpkins, and happy fall bears and hedgehogs!
The National Friends of the Library Bookmark Contest was held, with a total of 235 entries from the Atkinson schools in grades K-6! The Friends would like to thank everyone who participated in the contest – stop by and check out your local talent!
Jeff Barnes, Humanities Nebraska Speaker, presented “The ‘Mad’ Queen of the Prairie” at the Atkinson Public Library to a wonderful crowd of seventy-seven children and adults. Barnes, who has spoken at the library many times, has published multiple books on the history of Nebraska, which are all available for checkout at the library.
The library hosted a Fall Scavenger Hunt from October 9 through the 14th. There were 130 participants that hunted to find the sixteen items hidden all over the library!
The Atkinson Public Library held Easter Crafts for Kids at the library. Throughout the week there were 129 crafters coloring wood Easter egg cutouts, and coloring and putting together paper Easter baskets, which were then filled with “grass” and candy-filled eggs!
