History
Butler Memorial Library, a donation from Senator Hugh Butler, Frank and Maudlee Butler was dedicated on November 9, 1950. The open house was held on February 22, 1951 and the next day, Mrs. Grace Newcomb, librarian, started checking out books. The first library board members were Ray McKinney, O.C. Shoemaker, R.E. Kind, Mable Correll and Zola Luther. The library operates with funds from the city and donations to offer materials and services that provide our community with opportinities to enhance lifelong learning.

Library Board
The library is overseen by a Library Board & Library Foundation Board. The boards are made up of the same five people, however their agendas are different.
The library board manages the general operations of the library.
The Library Foundation Board manages:
• Purchasing Books, DVDs and magazines
• Bake Sale—raising money for something new:
2017 – Little Free Library
2018 – Edgerton Explorit Planetarium Event
2019 – New Junior Nonfiction book with QR code (Presidents) & Summer Reading Program activities(adjusted due to Covid)
2020 – matching funds for Children’s room updates
2021 – Asbestos ceiling texture removal, retexture & paint ceiling; enclose Studio Room
