We had our library board meeting today. We welcome David Francis as a new member. Thank you goes out to Angie Ridgway and Thelma Soucie for many years of volunteer work at the library as library board members. We have made our plans for Triple F Days on August 15th.

Vendor show 8am – 2pm at the Auditorium
Scavenger Hunt for the kids 11am until noon starts at library
(will be going around town on this hunt)
Movie 1-3pm at the library for the kids, movie to be announced
Water Balloon Wars for the kids 3pm -until we run out
of balloons at the Auditorium
Any donations to any of the events is welcomed!
We will be having Movie Night on July 10th at the Auditorium and this one will be a kids movie. The July 17th movie will be more for adults. More information to come.

Members attending were Susan Short, Angie Ridgway, Nancy Bischoff, Thelma Soucie, and Stephanie Haack. Councilman Casey Kluver attended for the city. The Board reviews old business and moved to new. Ideal Electric will be doing electrical work within two weeks and the library may need to be closed for the work. Statistics were presented for the month of April: total materials in catalog 7686; Total yearly circulations 809, Total monthly circulations 179; total visits 300; Total computer use 150; and Total reference questions 1184. The Library participated in National Library Week and joined Region 9 Services Coordination for the Week of the Child. Free books and prizes were given out to the kids in celebration. The library received its State award of $604. The Summer reading program is planned and requests for donations will be posted around town. The library repairs from the storms last year should be done soon. Approval to paint inside was given by City Council and Library Board. The Board reviewed bills and the bills thru April total $10,831.50. Councilman Kluver talked with the board about the repairs and the possible closing or reduction in library hours. The Board president and library director will go to the City council meeting to talk further with the council. The Board also discussed the Library’s upcoming Centennial Birthday that will be tentatively planned for Triple F Days in 2014. The Library will not be open this year for the Annual Alumni Banquet. The next meeting will be June 7, 2013

Community Matters @ the Fairfield Public Library!
The Library is working hard to provide resources to our wonderful patrons! The Library provides books, Dvds, vhs, Large print books, Books on Cd, 67 board games, multicard reader, magazines, 2 newspapers, projector, and screen for patrons to check out. The Library has WiFi internet, 5 laptops, 7 desktops, scanners, a Summer Reading program and a fax/printer/copier/ Interlibrary Loan service. The Library has an information center with lots of different subjects like Snap, Social Security, etc. The Library has an ADA station equipped with Dragon Naturally Speaking, Kurzweil 1000, Zoom Text, and Jaws. The Library has a museum and Alumni room. The Library has been serving Fairfield since 1914, almost 100 years now! The Library has 20,053 item for patrons to check out and served almost 4000 patrons last year alone! The Library is part of the Read Aloud Community, Facebook, Fairfield Community Club, Partners with NeWorks, NLC, RVLS, Pinterest, and we have our own webpage! So come in and enjoy the Fairfield Public Library today!

The Board reviewed old business and it was approved. The Library has spent $7860.70 for the year, making it $1097.65 under budget so far for the year. The bills were reviewed, approved, and signed. Eakes $94.50 for AR168MT copier repaird, Eakes $81.50 for AR168MT copier ink, payroll, Source Gas $265.65, $216.85, Windstream phone/internet $200.09, and South Central Public Power District $82.09.
Accredidation was discussed. The library has to spend 10% of its annual budget on materials just to be at the lowest level of accredidation. If the library isn’t accredidated, it may not qualify for grants, especially from state and government. The library, staff, and board have to be accredidated thru the Nebraska Library Commission.
The Board discussed becoming a business member of the Fairfield Community club for the 2013 year. It would cost $25.00. It was approved and the Friends of the Library will take it out of their account.
Requests for baby, pregnancy books was given by the library director, she will look into prices and titles.
The Read Aloud Nebraska group has given the library 30 books to be distributed to the children in Fairfield.
Erate for 2014 has been started. 2012 Fiscal year information was given, copy will be given to the City council also.

Library Board Meeting Notes from Friday, August 3rd, 2012

Last Board meeting notes were reviewed and Library Director needs to buy materials for the library. She will talk to City Clerk about the funds to do so.

Books, magazines, and newspapers that are older than 3 months and have been weeded from the library’s system will be sold online using the Facebook/ Webpage

Library Director reported Library trainings she attended provided by Economic Development and BTOP. It was approved for the director to attend the BTOP training on Aug 21-22 in Grand Island. Tysha Francis will be the substitute for those days.

There are training sessions the library can hold for the community that provides instruction on computers and several programs that are on the computers such as Microsoft Word, MS Exel, MS Powerpoint, Beginning Computers, Ebay, Facebook, and many others. The Director will look into scheduling some of the classes for the community. Class size ranges from 2 to 8 depending on the class. It is taught by a professor from Central Community college.

Bills were discussed. Will order magazines from Seniors this year and Clay County paper subscription was approved.

The Library is a Read Aloud Library again this year.

The DUC Library Program has donated several new Art Books to the Library. Andy Worhol, Sean Scully, An American Century of Photography,
Apples and Olives, and several others will be available in the next couple weeks.

The Library is in need of volunteers to help with programs and other little projects. We greatly appreciate all the time our volunteers have given to help!

The Triple F Days was discussed and the pancake feed responsibilities were finalized. Meet Aug 17th for setup, pancake feed Aug 18th 8am-10am

Next Meeting will be September 7, 2012 at 9 am in the library.
