Library Services

Library Membership

Library membership is granted to residents of the Wilcox/Hildreth School District and trade area.  There is no charge for library cards.

Materials Circulation

Loans

A four week standard loan is set on all materials.

Items may be renewed up to two times as long as there is not another patron waiting for the item.

A person with a library card may borrow up to 30 items, except for first-time library users. First-time check outs are limited  to two items per account.

In order to provide prompt service on an equal basis to all patrons, reference materials are generally non-circulating.

Interlibrary loans are due the date indicated by the lending library.

The Director may establish the loan period for special collections and materials which are temporarily in great demand.

Renewals & Damaged & Lost Materials

The Hildreth Public Library is interested in having materials returned, not in collecting fines. Unlike many libraries, we do NOT charge fines for overdue materials. We are pleased that our patrons respect this privilege, and return their items promptly.

Patrons shall be notified when items are overdue.

There are no late fees for overdue items; however items more than 4 weeks overdue will be given a lost status; the patron will be notified and billed.

The amount of the bill for a lost or damaged item will be the replacement cost of the item.

The fee and bill may be waived if a patron can return the lost item in good condition.

Home Delivery Service

Home library service is available to Hildreth residents who are confined to a private residence or as a result of ill health or a physical, visual or age related handicap.

Denied Services

Services and borrowing privileges may be denied to patrons refusing to follow library policies.

Confidentiality of Patron Records

Hildreth Public Library recognizes that library records and patron information are confidential.  Library records are defined as a record in any form that is maintained by the library and that contains any of the following types of information:

  1. Information an individual is required to provide in order to be eligible to use the library services or borrow materials
  2. Information that identifies an individual as having requested or obtained certain materials on a specific subject.
  3. Information that is provided by an individual to assist staff to answer a specific question or provide information on a particular subject.

Information that does not identify an individual and that is retained for the purpose of evaluating the use of the library is not considered and is not subject to this policy.

Library records will not be made available to any agency of federal, state or local government, or to any spouse or other individual, except as pursuant to the following:

  1. For the records of minor children when requested by parents or guardians.
  2. In accordance with a subpoena, search warrant or other court order, or to a law enforcement officer who is investigating a matter involving public safety in demanding circumstances.
  3. At the request or consent of an individual who is the subject of the record or information.
  4. For library administrative purposes.  Patron record information is available to staff of the library for use in the ordinary conduct of library business.

Interlibrary Loan

The Library is unable to provide all materials that are requested because of limited space and budget.  Therefore, interlibrary loan is used to obtain materials from other libraries that are beyond the library’s collection.
