Library Board Meeting
There will be a Library Board meeting this Wednesday, October 19th. The meeting will be held at the Sargent Township Library at 12:00 noon.
Our library serves as an information center for all individuals in the Sargent Area. We seek to inspire life-long learning, and provide research tools to serve and strengthen our community and ignite imaginations.

Here at the Sargent Library we have 4 new computers thanks to a Broadband Technology Opportunities Program grant. This is exciting for our community because it means that we now have 6 computers for the public to use. As more and more business is transacted online, it becomes essential that everyone have access to the internet. Now that the library has a sufficient number of computers, there should never be any wait time. You won’t have to worry that someone else will come in and make you get off the computer. You can work all day without any interruptions. Be sure to stop in and try out the new computers. Remember, we also have black & white and color laser printers. If you need help setting up an email account or just general help with using a computer, the librarian is always here to help you.
I have been sick for the past week, and it feels good to be back at the library today. Thanks to Jess and Joann for taking over for me. They did a good job. I’ve just unpacked 11 new books. It may take a few days to get them processed and on the shelf, but they look like some good ones.
Come in and check out the newest book by Jeffrey Archer.

Do you recognize any of these people from 1965? The library has a number of school yearbooks from the past – ranging from 1915 to the present. Come on in and search through the memories.
It’s fun to read about the pioneers that first settled this land. I find it especially interesting to read about Custer County history. The Sargent library has a number of Nebraska history books. Here are some of the most interesting ones.
Pioneer History of Custer County Nebraska – S. D. Butcher
Sargent, Nebraska 75th Anniversary Celebration 1958, Sargent Centennial 1883 – 1983, Sargent’s Quasquicentennial (125th) Celebration
No Time on My Hands – Grace Snyder (Custer County pioneer, biography)
When You and I Were Young, Nebraska! – Berna Hunter Chrisman (autobiography)
The Ladder of Rivers: The Story of I. P. Olive – Harry E. Chrisman
A Treasury of Nebraska Pioneer Folklore – Roger L Welsch
Battlefields of Nebraska – Thomas D. Phillips
Mollie – The journal of Mollie Dorsey Sanford in Nebraska and Colorado Territories
The Children’s Blizzard – David Laskin
Nebraska: An Illustrated History – Frederick C. Luebke
Once Upon a Town: The Miracle of the North Platte Canteen – Bob Greene
One of my least favorite jobs at the library is getting rid of old books. There is limited space, so some of the books that are well worn or never get checked out have to be discarded. These books are available free (donations accepted) for whomever wants them. Come in and look them over. You may find the perfect book for you.
Come into the library and find a good book. Stay inside and beat the heat. Remember, we also have 4 public computers with a color printer and scanner. We can make black & white and color copies, as well as send and receive faxes.
