New Books

Hello all! I wanted to take a moment today to talk about new books I’m excited to read. Many of us enjoyed David Baldacci’s new series Atlee Pine and the third book, Daylight came out this week. Ree Drummond has also written a memoir! If you have ever perused one of her cookbooks you know that she has quick wit and a sentimental side. I’m looking forward to reading Frontier Follies: Adventures in Marriage, & Motherhood in the Middle of Nowhere. We also ordered a copy of Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man and after watching a few of Emmanuel Acho’s videos on social media I think this one will be very informative. I also feel like I can get through the information faster reading rather than watching videos.

Other new books that I know patrons will be interested in include, Carolina Breeze by Denise Hunter, The Other Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn (Bridgerton is an upcoming Netflix drama), Forgiving What You Can’t Forget by Lysa Terkeurst, Shadow of a Dragon by Marc Cameron, a Jack Ryan novel, Moonflower Murders by Anthony Horowitz, and Jo Nesbo’s The Kingdom.

Virtual Early Out Building Day

Hey, Kids! Even though we aren’t getting together to build on Wednesday I thought we could still have some fun. Can you build a pumpkin? Or even a Jack o’ Lantern?

How about a ghost? Be creative and build us something, have your parents snap a picture and post it in the Facebook event for everyone to see. All participants can stop in and receive something from the prize box.

Let’s still have some fun and be creative!

Summer Reading Wednesdays in July

Your children are invited to the Stromsburg Public Library’s Summer Reading program. Our program will be celebrating classic stories and nursery rhymes as well as fun new stories as we follow the theme, “Imagine Your Story.”  We have many fun programs in store for children entering Kindergarten – 5th grade the 2020-2021 school year.  The programs are free and open to all abilities.

We will be meeting on Wednesday mornings in July starting July 1 with Kindergarten through 2nd grade from 9 am – 10 am and 3rd grade   – 5th grade from 10:30 – 11:30. There are no special events planned at this time due to the changing nature of COVID-19 restrictions. We just weren’t sure what summer reading would like look this year!

Registrations can be completed online under the Summer Reading tab or in person at the library.

See you this summer!

Library Opening with Restrictions

The Stromsburg Public Library will be reopening this week with a few restrictions.

  • First of all, for the safety of staff and their families, please do not come to the library if you have a fever, cough, or are feeling unwell.
  • We will be keeping the number of people in the library building to under 10 people at a time.
  • Patrons will be requested to use hand sanitizer upon entering the library.
  • To help the most patrons we can we ask that one family member be in the library at a time.
  • We ask that patrons do not sit and read in the library. Simply check out materials.
  • Patrons will be asked to place materials on the desk and then step behind the line to maintain social distancing.
  • No computer gaming will be allowed.
  • Computer use will be limited to three computers instead of five so we can maintain social distancing.
  • All computers will be cleaned by staff after use.
  • We will continue to provide take out service to those that request it.

Thank you for your continued use of the library. I would like to remind everyone to take a few minutes and log into our new library catalog at www.stromsburg.biblionix.com and set your preferences for notifications. Theses preferences will be utilized for contacting you about holds that are available, overdues and lost materials. Otherwise you will be receiving a phone call from us for each of these. To log in you will need your library card. If your library card reads P ### You will need to include the P and the space.

You can now also text the library from our library catalog. If it is during open hours a staff member will be able to respond to your requests via text. This new system is focused on you the patron. We hope you like it!

Help Documents for New Catalog

These two PDF’s will help you navigate searching for items and managing your own account on our new interface.

A couple of notes:

-Once in your account you will be able to choose how you want the library to interact with you when notifying you of overdue items and holds. You can now choose to be notified via text, email, or phone call. The way I understand it you will also be able to text back to the system and a staff member can respond via text to you. You should also choose if you want your reading history saved or deleted and how many years you want it saved.

-The new system is connected with our OverDrive system. This is good because it means OverDrive holdings will show up in our catalog so you do not have to search two places at once. BUT this also means if your account is blocked for any reason, you will also be blocked on OverDrive until your account is cleared.

-For those of you that use Nebraskard you can now search the Kilgore Memorial Library right from our catalog. Look for the “Search Other Libraries” on the top left.

As staff learns the new system we will continue to provide you with more information about your capabilities within the system.

New Look for the Stromsburg Public Library Catalog

We will be making the switch to a new library system after 5:00 pm on Tuesday, April 28. This means that you may not have access to the library catalog during the evening of Tuesday. We will have a new look on Wednesday, April 29 when you go to our catalog. If you want to get a feel for what the new catalog will look like check out Seward’s online catalog that I’ve linked below.

For various reasons, this move had to happen very quickly so bear with us as we all learn a new system. Part of the reason for switching systems is the enhanced capabilities it gives our patrons in accessing the library and the more user friendly features of the catalog. We will have tutorials and pdf’s available for you on Wednesday teaching you the basics. One of the best things? You can tell at a glance if a book is in or out – green for in, red for out. 🙂
