“Dig Into History” is our theme for the Teen Summer Reading Program this month. On June 11, teens played a rousing game of boys vs girls Historical Jeopardy with the boys taking home the prize.
For our book club selection we are reading “Belle Boy: A Sister in the Rebel Ranks” by Anne Fuller. When her adored older brother, Johnny, goes missing in action at the Battle of Gettysburg, Samantha Anne Davis becomes Sam Davis and joins the Confederate Army in hopes of finding out what has become of Johnny. Will she find him before someone discovers her secret?
A big thank you to Jean Esther Dale for her information on “Fabulous Females” for our display this month!
Don’t forget to submit your answer for our weekly trivia! We are keeping track of correct answers and there will be a grand prize at the end of summer reading for the person who submitted the most correct answers!

Stromsburg Public Library is calling readers (and even non-readers) of all ages to sharpen their skills and reawaken the joy of reading by enrolling in the summer reading program. Adults are not to be neglected.
Adults will have the opportunity to complete a trivia sheet each month pertaining to the theme, “Groundbreaking Reads.” June trivia is an earthy word find with only 16 words to locate. Prizewinners will be selected from correct, completed worksheets. Stop in each month to pick up a trivia quiz. Another sheet asks the reader to match the quotation with the correct author.
Not interested in trivia? Then read any book, magazine, audio book, or ebook and enter the title and your name into a drawing for a prize each month.
Young people in grades 6-12 are invited to test their knowledge in a historical jeopardy game Tuesday, June 11, at 7 p.m. at the library. Teens may also answer one trivia question each week for a prize. They are encouraged to look up the answer if they don’t know it. The answer must simply be submitted for the drawing by the end of the week to qualify for the prize.
Elementary students will begin their weekly summer reading sessions July 8 and 9. Stop in and register.

There was an error made on the flyers around town. The Teen Book Club meeting will be June 4th, NOT June 6th as advertised! Sorry for the inconvenience.
The Historical Jeopardy game competition for Teen Summer Reading will be June 11, 2013 @ 7 pm.
Don’t forget the summer trivia contest going on at the library. Each week is a new question and winners are picked from the correct answers! This competition is also for grades 6-12.
Hope to see you soon at the library!

The Gordon Fredrickson display case was given in memory of Gordon Fredrickson, a long time member of the community and faithful patron of the library.
The library’s goal is to change the displays each month. We have had many varied collections over the years ranging from a license plate collection to school bells.
This month Linda Richards has loaned us her pitcher collection. The collection includes milk pitchers, gallon pitchers, cream pitchers, and various other sizes. Linda’s collection includes gifts from family and piano students, as well as heirlooms passed down from family. One pitcher was even purchased at the Stromsburg City Wide Garage Sales in 2010!
Stop in the library and view this beautiful collection.

Each month will have a different theme that relates back to the central theme of “Beneath the Surface”. There will be a weekly trivia contest, big events and a teen book club.
The teen program will kick off with a “Hobbit Party” on May 4th at 12:30 at the library. We will have hobbit food, trivia, and games. Come dressed as your favorite hobbit and you could win a prize for “Best Costume”.
Also new this year is the Adult Summer Reading Program. The program will run from May-August and will be in addition to monthly events such as book club and genealogy meetings. Join us as we look at groundbreaking books, technology and events.

Tuesday, April 16, come out and join the fun at the Stromsburg Public Library! Taxes are done, Spring is here (maybe?) it’s time to get out and enjoy the days to come!
We will be holding our monthly lapsit at 11:00 am for 1-4 year olds and their parents. Lapsits are held the third Tuesday of each month. They are a fun time of reading, rhyming, and singing for parents and children. This month our stories are oldies but goodies with selections from Aesop’s Fables, Mother Goose, and popular fairy tales.
Tuesday night at 7:00, Colleen Pallas will be with us to talk about creating your own herb garden. Information will be given on caring for the herbs, use of the herbs and how to freeze and dry your herbs.
