Snow what fun!

We are keeping spirits bright at your local library.

Check out the fun events we have going on in December and beyond!

Winter Book Bingo

December 1st to January 31st

Patrons of all ages are invited to compete in our Winter Book Bingo. All patrons have to do is read a library book that fits the criteria of the winter or holiday-themed squares on the card. Participants will be entered to win a $25 Amazon gift card! Come to the library to get your bingo card. Specific instructions are listed on the card.

Santa at the Library

Saturday, December 4th from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m.

Santa Claus will be visiting the library from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 4th. Tekamah Public Library Foundation will be handing out a gift to each family. We will also have a coloring table to occupy tots while they wait to tell the St. Nick their Christmas wishes.

We are asking that unvaccinated individuals over the age of two please wear a mask while waiting their turn, as social distancing may not be possible at times. Hand sanitizer and disposable masks will be available.

2021 Holiday Stroll Passport

Until December 20th

We are a stop on the 2021 Holiday Stroll Passport this year! Come to the library to pick up your passport and get a special stamp for visiting the us. Instructions on how to win $100 in Chamber Bucks is written on each passport. We are also able to collect completed passports and turn them in. This event runs until December 20th.

This event is sponsored by Tekamah Area Chamber of Commerce.

Binge Bags

We have a fun new program at the library. Patrons are able to check out a bag containing three movies and a free bag of popcorn. Spend a cold winter’s night in front of the TV with a hand-picked selection of movies. Miss Megan is a bit of a movie buff and has had a lot of fun curating these themed bags.

This program is currently a permanent addition to the library.

Thanksgiving Virtual Story Time

Tomorrow is a special day! This week, we are again celebrating Thanksgiving with some themed stories for Virtual Story Time. Check out Miss Theresa’s two stories and then the craft below. Miss Theresa liked both stories so much that she couldn’t decide which one to read, so she recorded both!

We are pretty sure everyone has made a hand turkey before. This week, we are bringing back this classic Thanksgiving craft for our story time. It’s so easy that even babies can do it (with some help) and so fun!

The sky’s the limit with decorating the hand turkey. Crayons, markers, and paint are all great mediums to color in the turkey after the hand is traced. Be sure you write down the child’s name, age, and the year so later you can look back and see how little their hand was when they made the craft.

If you need a refresher, we have a link you can visit here! We hope you all have a safe and happy Thanksgiving this year.

Santa Visit at the Library

St. Nick will be visiting us on Saturday, December 5th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. This year has been anything but typical, so it won’t be the usual visit with pictures on Santa’s lap.

Instead, we are having a drive-thru Santa visit! The Tekamah Public Library Foundation, library board, and library staff are teaming up to hand out free books and goodie bags. Santa will be there to greet cars.

Drivers are instructed to come through the alley between the library and Ronnie’s from west to east, instead of the usual east to west direction. This change is so traffic won’t get snarled on Main Street. Please follow the posted signs.

Drivers are also invited to decorate their cars, but this is not mandatory.

We hope everyone will come see us!

Halloween Virtual Story Time

Today is our final Halloween-themed Virtual Story Time. We had so much fun celebrating spooks and spectres for the month of October. Tomorrow, we will also post Megan’s daily reads from this past week. Check out our two stories and accompanying craft below.

For our craft this week, we want to tell you about Junk Pumpkins! Simply find some junk around the house and use it to give your pumpkin a cute face. They are safe for kids, as they don’t involve any carving or sharp tools. Check out the examples below!

Library Happenings

Trick-or-Treat at the Library

We will be having our annual Halloween event on Saturday, October 31st from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We will be handing out candy via a candy chute Miss Megan is building out of cardboard tubes! This will make the night extra fun and safe. We hope you will come see us.

Virtual Story Time

There was a hiccup in our usual Virtual Story Time this week due to scheduling conflicts. We will be back next week with a bunch of spooky and fun Halloween stories.

Library Closures

The library will be closed on Wednesday, November 11th for Veterans Day.

The library will close for Thanksgiving on Wednesday, November 25th at 5:00 p.m. The library will reopen on Saturday, November 29th at 10:00 a.m.

Lego Club

Lego Club will be held on Thursday, November 5th and Thursday, November 19th from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Children attending the event will make a lego creation based on our theme for that week. It is a ton of fun and we hope you will join us!

All the legos are sanitized prior to each meeting and we have hand sanitizer available. Social distancing guidelines will be adhered to. Children younger than 7 need to be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or responsible older sibling.

This picture was taken long before COVID-19 was a problem.
We are much more spread out now!
