Do you have the Albion newspaper from the early 1900’s indexed? I am looking for a death notice for Mrs. W. C. Poynter or Mrs. William C Poynter, or Mrs. Hudah (Watkins) Poynter after 1902. She was the mother of Gov. William A Poynter and lived in NE at least until 1902. I can find no record of her or her husband’s burial near either of her sons (both of whom are in NE) , nor can I find her buried in IL where her sister and parents were buried. If you have not indexed these pages, could you refer me to the Albion Historical Society contact?

  1. Hello! We do have the old Albion newspapers on microfilm but, they are currently being worked on by an outside company. I should have them back by the end of April and we could try to find your information then. Thank you for the question!

Do you have anything with information on the building that Harve B Maxwell built in 1919 in downtown Albion? His name and date are on the front of the building that I believe is Doris’s Flower Shop now. We were always told that it was a gambling hall when he built it. He would be my great grandma’s brother. Any information you would have would be great! Thank you for your time!

    1. Hello! I apologize for just now responding as I was away from the library for awhile. We wouldn’t have anything specific on that building… For that, I would suggest either contacting City Hall or the Boone County Court House. My other suggestion would be to use our new searchable database for the Albion Newspaper. If you go to the library’s “home page” and scroll about 1/2 way down, you’ll see a list of “links” on the right-hand side. Click on “Albion Newspaper Database”… This will take you to a separate website where you’ll be able to search the newspaper for any articles concerning the building. Please let me know if I can be of any help… I’m happy to assist as needed! Staci

  2. I am interested if there was a DVD made of the Boone county Genealogical Society meeting about Sheriff Smoyer and his Deputies murder. in 1937. I was from Petersburg, Ne. Iam interested in wha tnational magazines featured their story.
    Thank you Joe Julich

    1. Hello! I am not sure if there was a DVD made of the presentation about Sheriff Smoyer. I would actually recommend you contacting the Boone County Historical Society as they were the ones that hosted the meeting. Their number is: 402-395-6558. Best of luck! It was an amazing presentation! Staci
