Summer Reading Contest Winners

Throughout the summer, the Shelby Community Library challenged students to keep track of the time they spent reading. The two students from each age group that read the most were announced on July 17th at the Shelby farmers market. The first-place prize was a $100 shopping spree sponsored by Double Dutch Dairy and the second-place prize was a free pool pass for the 2020 season sponsored by the Village of Shelby. In the preschool to kindergarten level, Dean Griffin read the most while Cora Stewart read the second most. Landon Ziems read the most while McKenna Stewart read the second most in the 1st grade to 3rd grade level. Jacob Wacker read the most in the 4th to 12th grade level while Rebecca Wacker read the next highest amount. In total, all the students who participated read a total of 417 hours this summer. The Shelby Community Library appreciates the following businesses and friends that have generously donated prizes, certificates, and money to buy prizes for our summer reading program and story hours: Central Valley Ag, Creston Fertilizer, Double Dutch Dairy, Friends of the Library, Mane Attractions, Shelby Dental Clinic, Shelby Chamber of Commerce, Shelby Hotel, Shelby Lumber, Sherri Nielsen, Pinnacle Bank, RoxAnn Cleaning, Stacy Stewart, Village of Shelby, Nitha White Chiropractor, Jeff and Kelly Willis, and Clare Wilton.
