Nebraska Overdrive is now live at the Plainview Carnegie Library!  Some of you may be asking what is Nebraska Overdrive, it is where you can check out ebooks and audiobooks by using your library card number from the library.  These items are checked out as if they were a regular library book with a due date but you don’t have to worry about them being overdue because they will be erased after the due date.  Come into the library or give us a call to get your library card number and find out how to check out these ebooks and audiobooks today!

Game Day at the Library

Saturday, November 3rd is the American Library Association’s 5th Annual International Games Day @ Your Library.  We will be having a variety of Board Games, Playstation and Wii Games for all ages to play on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  Everyone is welcome to attend. 

In the 21st century, libraries are about more than just books. The goal of International Games Day is to reconnect communities through their libraries around the educational, recreational, and social value of all types of games.

International Games Day @ your library is an annual initiative supported by the American Library Association and our 2012 sponsors PopCap, Ravensburger, and GameTable Online.

It’s Time for STORY TIME

It’s time for STORY TIME at the Plainview Carnegie Library.

Story Time will start on Monday, September 10th and continue until December 17th when school will be letting out sometime that week for Christmas vacation.

Story Time will run from 3:45-4:45 PM on Mondays and is for children age 3 1/2 through 2nd graders.

Of course there will be a story, and maybe a craft project or coloring and maybe a game or a song.

RETURN TO THE HILLS OF MARS

The Plainview Carnegie Library proudly presents the RETURN TO THE HILLS OF MARS presentation by D. R. Haskin at the Library at 7:00pm on Wednesday, July 18th. The author will talk about his new book and books will be available for purchase with a book signing following the presentation. This presentation is free and open to the public.

Dream Big – READ!

Readers of all ages will explore the night this summer as we present “Dream Big-READ!” during our summer reading program.  Activities may include programs on stargazing and moon lore, dreams and wishes, space exploration, nocturnal animals and evening pajama storytime, and more.

The 2012 Summer Reading Program is open to everyone, preschool through adult, with programs, activities, games, crafts, story time and more with prizes and awards for those participating.

You may register now with the main registration for “Dream Big-READ!” on Friday, June 1st, from 1-5 pm.

Programs will be on Mondays, July 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 and participants will start reading on June 1st and end on July 31st.  Exact times for the programs will be determined when we have a count of who is participating.  So keep on watching the website for more details on the programs.

TEENAGERS can participate in the “Own the Night” summer reading program.  Teens are invited to read from June 1 to July 31 for prizes as well as to take part in special events offered throughout the summer.

There will be a Celebration Picnic on Monday, August 6th in Chilver’s Park when the awards and prizes will be given out to participants.

OPEN HOUSE

We will be holding an Open House at the Library on Wednesday, April 11th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  We will be showcasing our new computers that we received from the Nebraska Library Commission’s Broadband Technology Opportunity Grant.  Included in the new computers is a new ADA computer workstation.  SO if you are wondering what this all involves then you need to come to the library.

We invite everyone to come to the Library and see what we have to offer.  We will have coffee, juice and cookies at the Open House!

We will also have a sign up sheet that night that interested patrons can sign up for computer classes such as: getting to know your computer (desktop/laptop), how to set up and use your e-mail account, Facebook, Online Photoshop, Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.  If you are unable to attend the open house you may also stop by the library when we are open or give us a call at 402-582-4507 to sign up for any of the classes.

We have a survey that will be mailed out at the end of February in the City of Plainview electric bills, but we have also put the survey on survey monkey.
