Fall at at the Library

It is really starting to feel like fall. The calendar has moved to September when the official start of Autumn will be, weather is changing and our schedules at the library are transitioning to the new routines of fall activities.

Today, we have York College students from the Children’s Literature class coming to the library for an orientation of what we have and how to find it for this course. We hope they will see other spaces and materials in the library that will bring them back even when this course is finished.

During YorkFest we are hosting magician, Jeff Quinn, as part of Family Fun Night, Thursday, September 9, at 7:00 pm, right here at Kilgore Memorial Library. Jeff has been a popular feature of YorkFest before and we are thrilled to bring him back to York. Saturday evening look for the library station along the Beaver Creek Trail as part of Bike at Night.

Next week our LIVE, IN-PERSON Story Time returns! Mrs. B. is planning lots of fun for little ones on Tuesday’s, at 10:30 am. This popular library program has been virtual for long enough. We hope that your family is ready to join us for lots of reading, playing, and learning in this fun, safe environment for toddlers. On Thursday, the Success Class from YHS will return to the library for their turn to learn about the library and reading with Mrs. B. This class works hard, but they also have fun and we enjoy seeing them return for their regular visits every fall.

The Friends of the library have their regular monthly meeting on the Second Wednesday of the month. In September that will be the 8th at noon. Anyone interested in helping at the library is welcome to attend these meetings. If you cannot attend a noon meeting visit with staff about activities the Friends have planned and volunteer to help when you can.

Our Next Chapter Book Club will be returning to the library in September also! This group of adult readers and their support staff have a great time coming to the library and reading a book together. Each reader takes a turn reading a section out loud and our volunteers ask questions to engage the readers with the story. This is a wonderful program that will be meeting Monday’s and Wednesday’s at 1:00 pm at the library. If you are interested in additional information about this club, reach out to the library director at 402.363.2620 or kilgore@cityofyork.net.
