HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES GOING ON AT THE LIBRARY

The McCook City Library will hosting several activities for youth thru the holidays and beyond.

   Special Christmas Evening Storytime for All  will be Thursday, Dec. 21 from 6:30-7:30 pm with special treats and a special guest stopping       by to say HELLO…..

  Celebrate New Year’s Eve with stories, games and crafts. Wednesday, Dec. 27th from 2-3:30 pm.

  Board and Card Games (bring Pokeman cards) Come and play games with us and friends on Thursday, Dec. 28th form 2-3:30 pm.

  Bingo-Bingo-Bingo, come make your own cards and then play while enjoying some HOT COCOA on Friday, Dec. 29th from 2-3:30 pm.

  Jigsaw Puzzle Tourney (teams of 3) on Wednesday, Jan 3 from 2-3:30 pm.

Halloween Bag Winners

We have drawn for our decorated and filled Halloween bags. winning bags with “We are Batty about Reading” are Isabella Weiser, Tyler Stritt, Lydia Jensen and Kali Werkmeister. Summer Reading Registration Ends Friday, May 26

Sign up now for McCook City Library’s Summer Reading program for those going into kindergarten through 6th grade. All the activities start June 6th.  Times for different grades are as follows:

Kindergartener’s Unite     Tuesdays            10:00-11:30 am

1st and 2nd graders           Tuesdays            1:30-3:00 pm

3rd and 4th graders           Thursdays           1:30-3:00 pm

5th and 6th graders           Wednesdays       1:30-3:00 pm

There will be no sessions during July 4 week.

Reminder: Sign-up ends Friday, May 26th.

 

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Celebration.

The second annual 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten celebration was held on April 27. Forty readers were in attendance to get awards, enjoy cake and listen to some great stories. Helping with the reading were: City Manager, Nate Schneider ( great job as the Big Bad Wolf and Cowboy Roy), and TAB (Teen Advisory Board) members, Katie Kjendal, Emily Kjendal, Page Wolcott, and Breanna Hazen.

Top readers  were: Shaelyn Hagan-900 books, Madeline Matson- 900 books, Jordan Pollmann-900 books, Britton Blomstedt-1000 books, Rinlee Blomstedt-1100 books, Kalissa Hagan-1200 books and this year’s top reader for the second year in a row, Zander Ralston with 3,000 books. Congratulations to all of our readers, YOU MAKE US SO PROUD!!!!!!

Anyone interested in signing up for the 1,000 books program, stop at the front desk. Books and prizes are handed as goals for reading.

Easter Brings Basket Winners

The Easter holiday brought many hoppy patrons to the Library. Those winning baskets include: Mitchell Harms, Grace Haag, Grace Wahrman, KaidenProter, Kapri Loop, Addison Schliep, Ty Schafer, Henry Nelson, Jace Jensen, Kennedy Fichtner, ashley Cowley, Alice Montes, Scotlyn McClain, Gunner Kaps, Quincy Long, Abby Nielsen, Esperanza Bueno, JP Jones, Reese Gillespie, Aaron Frank, Riley O’Brien and Collin Crocker. 

National Library Week Book Drawings

National Library Week was celebrated the first week in April.  Book drawing winners in the adult category included: Roxanne, Hurt, Kristy Smith-Kreiling, Meghan Giorgione, Lindsay Dame, Lucille Wolvin, Heather Bieker, Gay Schoott, Josiah Weyeneth, Chase Trosper and Marilyn Anderjaska.

Winners in the youth category included: London Blomstedt, Spencer Schliep, Addison Schliep, Reagan Schilling, Isabelle Clause, Kasen Yilk, Zander Ralston, Kaela Hinz, Nolan Yilk and Mark Wolfe.

Also during April we celebrated Poetry Month with guests poets reciting their poems. Ginny Odenbach from McCook (our Favorite) and  C. F. Kelly. Lindi Johnson from the McCook High School also made an appearance.

Coloring Contests were held in different age groups relating to poetry.

Ages 3-5

1st-Kennedy Fichtner; 2nd-Jordan Pollman; 3rd-Rinlee Blomstedt; other participants were: Gabriel Ulloa, Kasen Yilk, Britton Blomstedt and Natalie Weyeneth.

Ages 6-8

1st-Zaely Pace: 2nd-Alice Weimer; 3rd-Nolan Yilk: other participants were: Clare Weber, Josilin Miller, Maria Ulloa, Violet Stevens and Axel Blomstedt.

Ages 9-12

1st-Jackson Blomstedt; 2nd-MacKenzie Witt; 3rd-Lucy Weber; other participants were: Emma Graff, Paige Witt, Camryn Yilk, Bailee Foster, Kapri Loop, Adyn Meyer, Addison Schliep, Alyssa Skeen, Sueanne Miner and Esperanza Bueno.

 

 

April is Showering Activities at the Library

April is a busy time at the McCook City Library. Listed below are activities that will be going on. If you have any questions, please contact the Library at 345-1906.

April 6th– Thursday 4-5 pm (for ages 5-15) “CHALK A POEM”-Come listen to poems read by the TAB (Teen Advisory Board) and write one of your own with some help and then take it outside and write in on our sidewalks, including some artwork.

April 9th-15th– “NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK”-check out the contests and activities during this special week. Bring a friend and have them sign up for a library card and receive a prize.

April 19th–Wednesday  6:30-7:30 pm  “POETRY READING” Come and enjoy the readings from our local poet Ginny Odenbach and a special guest and published poet, C.F. Kelly. Also joining in will be a few high school students reciting their poems. Refreshments will be served.  A evening of enjoyment for all.

April 27th– Thursday 6:30-7:30 pm “1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN CELEBRATION” will be held with refreshments, a special reading from some very special friends. Announcements of reading goals and prizes to be handed out. Get your sheets turned in and come join us and your friends for an evening of fun……Watch for you invitation.

Winners of Mickey, Minnie and Yodas

   Lilly Spencer won the plush Mickey and Minnie. Zander Ralston, and Gabriel Smith won the Yodas. The Yodas were donated by Kime Williams and Teresa Kipp. Special thanks to them. 

Stockings Have Found New Homes

The stocking drawing has been held and the following will choose a stocking full of surprises and a book to enjoy over the holidays.
