It’s SNOW secret – books are cool!  New in the children’s section are several “Click Clack” picture books by Doreen Cronin, Ivy and Bean books by Annie Barrows and Disney books by  various authors.  We also have several new kids 100 piece puzzles.  Adult books include:  The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles and  Death by Cashmere a Seaside Knitters Mystery by Sally Goldenbaum.

Lego League was held on Monday, January 17 with snacks provided by Park Center Daycare director Marissa Lemke.  Thank you for supporting Lego League by providing us with snacks.  If any businesses or individuals are interested in providing snacks please contact the library.  Book Club, held on the fourth Wednesday of the month (January 26^th) read and discussed  Anxious People by Fredrik Backman.

Over 40 children and 20 adults attended the Balloon Animal Adventures program sponsored by the Elgin Public Library. This program combined animal education with the fun and silliness of balloons. Brought to life by Peter and Penelope, this program required over 4 hours of work and more than 150 balloons to make the 9 animals they shared with the audience. Believing they were real, Peter and Penelope kept the kids engaged and entertained. The children went home with an adopted balloon animal while the animals from the program adopted the library. They are waiting for you to stop in at the library and say hi!

Don’t Call Me a Bear, written by Aaron Blabey, tells the story about a koala who informs his friends that he is not a bear. Just because I’m furry Doesn’t Mean That I’m a Bear. The chldren learned that koalas are marsupials instead of bears. It was a fun and educational story.

Every Thursday during the month of June, Elgin Public Library has Activity Time for children grades 2 through 5 beginning at 1:00. This year we are fortunate to have Travis Rudloff, an intern at the Antelope County Extension Office, in charge of the activities. This week they talked about service animals and came up with some creative ways to provide service to others.

All kids in grades 2 through 5 are welcome to attend.

On Wednesday, June 9, the story Catch That Chicken! by Atinuke was read to two groups of kids. Following the story we took a field trip to see some actual chickens. Some tried to catch the chickens, but didn’t have much luck. We would like to thank Beth Miller and family for letting us visit.

Summer Reading has started at the Elgin Public Library. On Wednesday, June 3, we hosted 2 sessions of story time. We read the story Little Green Donkey by Anuska Allepuz. It is about Little Donkey whose favorite food is grass. But what happens when Little Donkey eats too much grass? He finds out when he sees his reflection.

Elgin Public Library was pleased to have Bonnie Krogman entertain the public at the Community Center on Thursday, May 20. She shared many humorous poems and stories about her life with her late husband based on 45 years of ranching in South Dakota. Bonnie is a good friend to Joyce Sullivan. The library would like to thank all of those who attended and donated to the library building project.

Preschool through 1st grade children are invited to story time on Monday and Wednesday mornings beginning June 2 and lasting until June 30th, 2021. We will be hosting two sessions of story time each morning, the first being from 9:45 – 10:30, followed by another at 11:00 – 11:45.
