During WWII, books were sent to American soldiers. First, from a book donation drive headed by librarians and then by the United States government. Between 1943 and 1947, nearly 123 million copies of 1,322 titles were distributed to the U.S. Armed Forces in light-weight paperback books called “Armed Services Editions (ASEs). “When Books Went to War” by Molly Guptill Manning is available in Ebook or Audio book format through the Overdrive app. Also, we have a display of books with some of the titles which were sent overseas to our troops.
