Library Director-Job Description
Responsibilities
The Library Director is responsible for general operation of the library in accordance with Bylaws, Policies, and Procedures established by the Library Board under the direction of the City of Yutan. The guidelines governing the Library Director’s employment will be in accordance with the City of Yutan Employee Manual.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is required. The Library Director must be a Certified Public Librarian within three years of employment. Some typing and computer skills are required.
Duties
The Library Director should be familiar with the Library Bylaws, Policies, and Procedures.
The Library Director is responsible for supervision and scheduling of work hours of other Library staff.
The Library Director should maintain the Library in a neat and orderly manner.
The Library Director is responsible for selecting and ordering library materials and supplies with input from other staff members and patrons.
The Library Director should be familiar with materials in the library and able to assist patrons in their search for materials when requested.
The Library Director is responsible for cataloging, weeding, and inventory of library materials.
The Library Director keeps circulation and/or fees collected or other statistics as may be required.
The Library Director will maintain patron files, overdue book/material returns, and library fines according to policy and procedures.
The Library Director and/or the Library Assistant will plan a summer reading program.
The Library Director is responsible for reports required by the Library Board, City of Yutan, Nebraska Library Commission, or others that may occur.
The Library Director will attend all library board meetings. The Director should also attend Saunders County Library Cooperative meetings and /or Library Directors meetings.
The Library Director should keep the Library Board informed of library activities, needs, and concerns.
Hours/Compensation
The Library Director’s salary will be established annually as the budget is considered for the next fiscal year. If necessary, salary considerations may be required during the fiscal year.
In order for the Library to be staffed during open hours, the Library Director will work the hours that were agreed upon by the Director and the Library Board. It is recognized that additional hours will be needed to accomplish the multiple tasks required to maintain library operations. However, the Director should take into consideration the current operating budget and overall management of the library.
The Library Director will record hours worked on a time sheet to be submitted to the City Clerk at the end of each month. Notations should be made regarding purpose of hours in order to assist in future planning and scheduling needs.
The Library Director shall receive regular hourly wage when performing duties on behalf of or representing the Yutan Public Library whether within the library or outside of the library.
Continuing Education
Attendance at workshops and/or other educational meetings should be evaluated on the basis of meeting content, time required and budget requirements. Meeting requests over budget limitations are to be presented for approval by the Library Board at a regular meeting.
The Library Director will be compensated for meeting attendance at regular pay rate plus mileage rate established by the City of Yutan and for other reasonable expenses with receipts presented.
Accountability
The Library Director is accountable to the Library Board and/or Yutan City Council.
Evaluation
The Library Director will receive and annual performance evaluation by the Library Board which will be forwarded to the City Clerk for inclusion in personnel records.
Confidentiality
The Library Director recognizes that the circulation records and other record that identify and link names of library users with specific materials are confidential in nature. The Library Director is prohibited from disclosing this information to the general public. Such records shall not be made available to any agency of state, federal, or local government except to such process order or subpoena if good cause for its issuance has not been shown or if any defects in its issuance have not previously been cured.
Library Assistant- Job Description
Responsibilities
The Library Assistant will work under the supervision of the Library Director and is accountable to the Director, the Library Board, and the City Council. The guidelines governing the Library Assistant’s employment will be in accordance with the City of Yutan Employee Manual.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is required. Some typing and computer Skills are required. Librarian Certification is encouraged but not a requirement.

The Library Assistant should attend all Library board meetings except those directly involving salary or change in status. The Library Assistant will be compensated for board meeting times at regular hourly wage.
