Circulation Librarian

Job Description Summary
Under limited supervision, supervises circulation services and staff; works with other library supervisors to manage organization of library collection and coordinate shelf reading; interacts with patrons and provides service in regard to patron accounts; coordinates circulation projects. Work varies; individual judgment is required within generally prescribed standards and procedures.
Job Responsibilities
Organizes and operates the circulation desk for the library. Assigns job tasks to library clerks and pages and verifies accuracy of assignments; provides reports of circulation activity; performs routine circulation desk duties as necessary; trains circulation staff in circulation policies and practices including related documentation procedures; provides training for customer service; drafts circulation related manuals and writes other manuals for special projects as directed; participates in interviews and hiring processes to fill vacant circulation positions; provides orientation and training to new hires; assists in performance appraisals of supervised staff; responds to patron questions, comments and complaints regarding overdue notices, late fees, and claims returned. Develops and administers the circulation staff schedule. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education & Requirements
Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science, 2 years’ experience in a professional library position, and working knowledge of the principles of supervision and personnel practices. Possession of a valid Nebraska driver’s license.

Hastings Public Library

Librarians

HOURS
These are full-time, salaried positions.
Hours include day and some evening and weekend hours.
It may also include special events, meetings, seminars, etc.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Hastings Public Library is seeking two innovative and enthusiastic Librarians to interact with people of all ages. At Hastings Public Library, we believe interaction is the key to successful community outreach and that people of all ages learn through play.
In this position, we will look to the successful candidates to find learning opportunities that create magical, transformative experiences for babies, children, teens and adults. The successful candidates should demonstrate creativity, organizational skills, leadership, flexibility, and the ability to work well with others. As an integral part of the Library’s management team, the Librarians are expected to communicate openly and honestly and to be team players, working in cooperation with all department divisions as well as assisting and developing staff in the performance of their duties
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Master of Library Science or related field
Minimum of two years of increasingly responsible experience. (Some public library experience is preferred.)
Nebraska Public Librarian Certification must be obtained and maintained.
Spanish speaking candidates are welcome.
