And backs, and legs!! In preparation for our Summer Reading Program project; we are soliciting VOLUNTEERS to help us clear “Marvin’s Garden”. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it is the small piece of land sitting on the north side of the library/auditorium. Marvin Mead, originally from Norfolk, NE, worked as a bookkeeper and Assistant Manager for the Farmers Union Co-op in Snyder, then worked in various capacities for the Village from 1948 to 1990 – that’s 42 years!!! In honor of his dedicated service, a small ‘garden’ was established, now known as “Marvin’s Garden”. Unfortunately, time has taken its toll on this little piece of Snyder, and even though the Saucer Magnolias still bloom beautifully, the rest of the ‘garden’ is in need of some TLC. And that’s where our Summer Reading Program comes in! This year’s theme is “Build A Better World” – and we’re going to start in our own community! Our goal is to clear most of Marvin’s Garden so our summer readers can clean it up and plant new plants. Where do you come in??? We need to clear some of the big stuff out now before the kids get in there in July. We’re looking for volunteers on Saturdays: 20 May, and 3, 10, 17 June from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is cutting, pulling, and digging out the old stuff to make room for the new. Please join in to make this part of our little world better; sign up at the Snyder Library during normal business hours or call for more information. (Our number and hours are posted on this page to the right). Lunch will be provided to our volunteers. The more that show, the quicker it will go! Bring your loppers, shovels, saws and any other gardening tools you think we can use! Can’t do the cutting and pulling? We are also accepting monetary donations for some of the beautiful plants you see in the second photo. Be a “Snyder Bronze Supporter” for just $50, a “Silver Supporter” for $100, “Gold Supporter” for $200, or the creme-de-la-creme “Platinum Supporter” for $500. ‘Buy’ a plant or a set of plants, help with the cost of the pavers…’buy’ a couple of bags of mulch – no donation is too small because it ALL costs money! Below are the ‘what it looks like now’ and the ‘what we would like it to be’ pictures…so contribute what you can and when you can – come on out and start making your world better!
