Wow!!! Despite the heat (“feels like” temp of over 100!) we had another great Summer Reading Day. We started our day with Ms. Deborah Willcox from St. Francis Memorial Hospital. Deborah is a (are you ready for this title??) Registered Dietitian, Licensed Medical Nutrition Therapist (RD LMNT). Along with our “Building a Better World” we are building a better ‘you’! Deborah read What’s So Yummy? by Robie Harris; a book about eating well and feeling good. Ms. Willcox stressed how important it was to take care of ourselves so we can take care of our world. We did yoga to help strengthen bones and muscles and she had great presentations (and awesome information!) about some of our favorite foods. She even showed how much sugar is actually in some of the things we drink (it would astound you!). And because we talked about eating healthy, we made a very healthy snack – we created our own trail mix! We used dried peaches, dates, raisins, crasins, cheerios, pretzels, and M&M’s to name a few ingredients. The children had fun building their own creations to be eaten after our planting. And speaking of which – it went off wonderfully! Siffring’s Landscaping crew brought out our plants in the morning and planted quite a few, but each of the children got to plant one plant of their very own. So when you come out for the “We Built a Better World” celebration on Sunday, 30 July at 2 p.m., I’m sure the children will be happy to point out which one is ‘theirs’! We so look forward to having you come and see what a group of dedicated people can do if they put their minds to it! Sit back now and enjoy the pictures of our great day!
