I am so excited to be here! My name is Elizabeth Hittle (but you can call me Liz) and I am your new director here at the Snyder Public Library! I have been in the librarian field for about six years now, but this is the first time I’ve ever been a director, so I may be a bit clumsy for the first few months. Just bear with me, and I’m sure I’ll have it all figured out in no time! I hope to start up some weekly programming for adults and kids this fall, so if you have any ideas, please let me know.
As you all know, the Summer Reading Program is in July, and will most likely be every Thursday of the month, like last year. This year’s theme is “Libraries Rock!”, and all about music. I’m working on ideas and plans right now, but in the meantime, I need your help! If you could donate your empty Pringles cans, Kleenex boxes, cereal boxes, and coffee/oatmeal containers, that would be awesome! We also will need old rice or noodles (to make noise with!), long and medium-length rubber bands, old drumsticks (or things to be used as drumsticks), and small rocks with at least one flat side (to write on – I’ll expand on that in a future post). Anything you can think of that we could make an instrument with is welcome and appreciated! Thank you so much!
I know I have some pretty big shoes to fill – Shelley is an amazing person and a wonderful director. She has trained me in everything I need to know to be here, and has offered to help me as much as she can. Thank goodness! She took the library and made it into what it is today; a serene and cool place to be, full of the latest and greatest books. We will miss her dearly! Thank you, Shelley, for all that you have done!
I hope to make her and all of you proud, and will do my best each and every day that I am here. Thank you so much for letting me be your library director! Have a great day!
