Hello, all! Guess winter is sticking around for a little bit longer, eh? Hopefully it warms up (and stays warm) soon! I’m slowly figuring out my way around this updated WordPress editor, but it sure is a pain! Pictures definitely won’t look the same with the posts anymore, and even making the posts has become kind of ridiculous.
Make sure to check out our Facebook (necessitynotluxury) for more continuous updates and pictures of the happenings within our library!
Our foreign exchange student patron, Viva Jitcheun, has decided that she would like to put on presentations and slideshows here in the auditorium, to teach everyone about the exchange student program and about her home country, Thailand! On February 2nd, we learned about the program, and on February 16th, we will learn about some of the history of Thailand! She is doing a presentation every other Sunday, from 2:30 – 3:30 pm, inside the auditorium. She’s using the library’s new projector and projection screen to do it! Come on down and learn about a whole new country!
February 16th: History of Thailand, part 1
March 1st: Education in Thailand
March 15th: History of Thailand, part 2
March 29th: Religion in Thailand
Our Club Nights have changed a little bit! In January, Alex Nuno, former resident of Snyder (and now serving our country!) came into the library and asked about our old D&D (Dungeons & Dragons) club. I told him that I hadn’t been able to figure it out, and changed it into Board Game Night instead. He then offered to help me learn how to run the game sessions, help all of the patrons and me build characters, and then run a session so we could all play for the first time! It was a lot of chaotic fun, and we learned that it’s better to work together, and that the roll of the dice can change EVERYTHING! The kids loved it so much that they voted to make it into a club, and thus, D&D Club has replaced Chess as one of our main four clubs. Luckily for them, Chess Club was supposed to be right after the D&D session Alex ran, so they got to play it two weeks in a row. The second session was just as chaotic as the first, if not a little clunky (we are all still learning), and the kids loved it and can’t wait to play it again on February 26th! D&D Club Night is an extended one, running from 4:00 – 7:30 pm instead of 4:30 – 5:30 pm.
BINGO Night still remains our top Club Night, with seven attending last month and eight attending today! We’ve got lots of great prizes for all ages! Gym Day had seven attend last month, and we played kickball, as always. We always have a popsicle and water break in the midst of playing. Board Game Night was Alex’s D&D session last month, and eight people came to play, and my D&D session had five come to play. Hopefully all of our clubs continue to do well and get even better with time! Gym Day this month is on February 12th, Board Game Night will be on February 19th, and D&D will be on February 26th!
That’s about all for now – we’ve mostly been busy with our weekly clubs for the last couple of months, and that’s okay! The patrons all love them and have a lot of fun while attending. The next big event isn’t until May, which will be our Dr. Seuss party. Otherwise, my board and I will be discussing and planning other things for you all!
