Summer Reading Story Time

Summer Reading has started at the Elgin Public Library. On Wednesday, June 3, we hosted 2 sessions of story time. We read the story Little Green Donkey by Anuska Allepuz. It is about Little Donkey whose favorite food is grass. But what happens when Little Donkey eats too much grass? He finds out when he sees his reflection.

Bonnie Krogman, the Cowboy Poet

Elgin Public Library was pleased to have Bonnie Krogman entertain the public at the Community Center on Thursday, May 20. She shared many humorous poems and stories about her life with her late husband based on 45 years of ranching in South Dakota. Bonnie is a good friend to Joyce Sullivan. The library would like to thank all of those who attended and donated to the library building project.

Elgin Public Library Story Time

Preschool through 1st grade children are invited to story time on Monday and Wednesday mornings beginning June 2 and lasting until June 30th, 2021. We will be hosting two sessions of story time each morning, the first being from 9:45 – 10:30, followed by another at 11:00 – 11:45. National Library Week Winners

During National LIbrary Week parents and children were invited to the library to read the book of the day. The children were entered into a drawing for a book donated by Kim Young, Usborne Book Consultant. Winners were: Monday – Eleanor Beckman, Tuesday – Callie Mlinar, Wednesday – Cayson Bottorf, Thursday – Cody Mlinar and Friday – Cael Bottorf. The library also sponsored a coloring contest. Chase Young was the winner in the 3-6 age category and tying for first in the 7 and up age category were Allie Scheer and Cael Bottorf. Stop by the library to pick up your prize. Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate National Library Week with a special thank you going to Brenda Siems for the cookies and Kim Young for going the extra mile and making it a fun and successful week.

National Library Week

National Library Week (April 4 – 10, 2021) is a time to celebrate our nation’s libraries, library workers’ contributions and promote library use and support.  The theme for National Library Week 2021 is “Welcome to Your Library.” Make sure to visit the Elgin Public Library April 4-10 for National Library Week! Let’s celebrate and support our local library! Each day, there will be a featured book for your kids to come in and read. Monday the library will be closed and Friday will close at noon. Those two days, there will be a book in the window with a QR Code to hear a story. Each book that you read/listen to, will get you entered into a daily drawing for a book. To find our more information check out the library’s website (http://libraries.ne.gov/elgin/).   Winners will be posted the following business day.  Winners can pick up their books on April 12 at the library.  In addition, the library will also be sponsoring a coloring contest.  If your child is interested, please stop by the library and pick up the coloring page.  Refreshments will also be available throughout the week. 

Easter Cookie Decorating

Elgin Public Library hosted a cookie decorating activity on Saturday, March 20 for children ages 3-8.  We had 15 children participate.  After decorating the cookies, Kim Young, Usborne Book Consultant treated the kids to story time.  She read Never Show A T. Rex A Book by Rashmi Sirdeshpande, The Sound of My Heart by Emily Bannister and Poppy and Sam and the Lamb by Sam Taplin. We were extremely happy to have kids back in the library.

Easter Cookie Decorating

The Elgin Public Library will be hosting a cookie decorating activity on March 20, 2021. We will host two sessions with each session limited to 12 children each. The first session will be from 10:00 AM to 10:30. The second session will be held from 11:00 AM to 11:30. We will have a story and cookie decorating stations set up. The activity is open to children ages 3 to 8. Masks will be required. If interested please click the link below to sign up. Add names to the My Comment box.
