Heritage Room Policy

The purpose of the Heritage Room is to provide a collection of locally valuable historical genealogical materials for use by patrons and is available during all regular library hours.

  1. Materials housed in the Heritage Room shall not be available for checkout and will be labeled “In library use only”.
  2. While library staff will make every effort to introduce individuals to the collection as a whole and the basic operation of equipment, it is the individual’s responsibility for any in-depth research.
  3. Computers with access to Ancestry.com are available to the public. Patrons must abide by the “Computer Use Agreement” and have a signed copy on file and must sign in when using the computers in the Heritage Room.
  4. The Heritage Room is not to be used as a study room, a tutoring room, or a meeting room except for the Genealogical Society.  It must not be closed to library patrons during such meetings.
  5. Patrons wishing to do research using the Minden Courier and other Kearney County newspapers on file at the library will be required to use the microfilm copies of such newspapers.  The original newspapers are not for public use.
  6. Use of the microfilm reader/printer must be cooperatively shared if more than one individual is waiting to do newspaper research at the same time.
  7. A printer is available and copies are $.10 per copy.
  8. All materials housed in the genealogical collection are under the jurisdiction and management of Jensen Memorial Library.  Cataloging, classification, and shelving of these materials will be determined by the library director.  Materials in this collection are subject to the selection criteria outlined in the “Materials Selection Policy”.
