Do you know someone who can no longer enjoy reading due to a problem with their vision or a physical disability?
The Nebraska Library Commission provides free talking books and magazines through digital download and also in Braille to people with visual or physical conditions or reading disabilities. Book collections available are similar to those offered in a standard library and also include audiobooks and audio-magazines concerning the Nebraska/Great Plains area. Talking book recordings require special equipment which is provided on free loan from the Commission. Amplifiers are also available for those with significant hearing loss; however, these require a separate application and medical certification. Persons eligible for these services include those who suffer from: the inability to use standard print for prolonged periods of time, blurred vision (even that which is caused by medication), paralysis, Cerebral Palsy, Arthritis, Myasthenia Gravis, Stroke, Muscular Dystrophy, and Multiple Sclerosis to name a few. Application forms can be found on the Nebraska Library Commission Website. Also, your local librarian would be happy to assist you.
